Amy's that such a cool story. The last two visit to McD's for us was positive too. The first one, the mom of three boys said her one son was dx autistic- and now he's not... i couldn't even guess from seeing him that day. And the last time, my son played (PLAYED) with a 4 year old girl- they chased each other around for almost an hour, laughing and looking at each other. (i just wanted to take her home) At one point she said to her mom " Can that little boy come to my pool party? " I wanted to cry. It was great that you could be there for that woman and her kids- way to go!
Guest guest
Amy, it must feel so good knowing that you have help someone out. Lori Chance encounter My sister and I took the kids to Mc's tonight so that they could run off some steam in the playland. We were discussing a conversation I had earlier in the day with my neighbor. My neighbor's daughter has Down's and we were discussing misconceptions of different disabilities. Anyways, while we were talking, a woman turned around to me and said, " Did you say your son is autistic? So is HE " and she pointed to her youngest son. Her son, , is three and was just dxed last month! So, she (her name is Joy) is in that very difficult phase where she's trying to figure out what to do. She also thinks that her 9 yr old has been wrongly dxed with ADHD. She says the more she reads, the more she thinks he is Asperger's. She said, " he is BRILLIANT, but his behavior holds him back at school. " He was also a runner and there were other things that made me think she was right. So, we talked for a long time. Unfortunately she doesn't live in Kalamazoo county, so her son isn't eligible for Croyden. She did say that their local school district is starting a new autistic classroom next year and she was thrilled about that. She is having trouble getting her eldest a proper dx, so I told her who to contact at the Autism Center. She seemed quite grateful for that. I gave her my phone number and told her to call anytime. She said they just got a computer but don't have internet access yet. I still gave her the link for this group plus my personal email because she said they might get access soon. Anyways, what a weird thing, eh? Well, with the incidence of autism rising so quickly, maybe it wasn't so weird at all. I've just been feeling so badly that I really didn't even want to go to McD's. Somehow, the universe got me there anyways. It is so rewarding to be able to offer a little understanding. I have received so much from you guys and others, that it was nice to be able to repay that a little. Guest guest
That is very weird. But you are right, with more and more kids being dx'd it will probably become more and more commonplace for us to run into other parents with autistic children. I was thrilled last night too because Kep was being so social! He walked up to the older boy that Joy thinks is misdiagnosed and looked him in the eye, grabbed his hand, and led him to the slide! Luckily this boy was more than willing to play with Kep and they chased each other around the entire time! Sometimes I wonder if they recognize a kindred spirit? > >It was great that you could be there for that woman and her kids- >way to go! Yes, I felt really good about that. I do hope she calls me. Guest guest
Amy I am sure she appreicated it. It seems to me that no one tells you anything about Autism and any thing you find out is from a helpful parent.
