Steve,

If you check back in the archives and read message number 51299 (from

Friday, May 7, 2004), you'll be able to see the results I had from

trying this pasta. It was an unqualified failure *for me* -- I don't

know whether anyone else here would have a different result, as the

results I've read thus far have been very favorable. It just didn't

work for me *at all.*

The taste, and the texture, however, were virtually identical to

regular pasta.

Hi Everyone,

What I miss the most is pasta,which I ate alot of!! Has anyone tried

Dreamfields pasta?

Their web says 42 carbs but only 5 grams of digestible carbs. I'm

fairly new at this, so is it 5 grams?

Try some and find out. Eat a half a cup and test... that is the only way

that you will for sure know if you can eat it or not. I find that good

pasta is whole wheat, or other whole grain. Just don't eat piles and piles

of it!

Carbs are carbs - IIRC. One should see the total carbs

and not just the 'digestable' carbs.

There is also a lower carb past from Muellers (31 as

opposed to 41 carbs). It tastes pretty good. I have

also tried whole wheat pasta but it is not the same as

regular pasta. There is also 'low carb' pasta that I

will be trying (not cheap). As always, moderation is the

key.

Different people have had different results with dreamfields, so the

best thing to do is try it and test. It seems that if you're very

insulin resistant, it sends BG up higher, less so if you're less

insulin resistant, but it's definitely individual.

I've tried dreamfields a couple of times - I can't get it near me and

have to have a friend send it. In all cases, my BG went from the low

100s to about 140 at two hours. And that was for double the serving

size on the box, though I didn't finish the larger serving, but almost

did. I figure I wasn't going to eat that small a portion that they

recommend, so I should test for the larger amount. I can live with a

PP number in the 140s every now and then so that I can have my

beloved pasta. I really missed it, and the low carb pastas were, to

me, absolutely inedible.

I don't know Dreamfields, but I have a pasta machine www.ronco.com, which I use

a lot. I make noodles from a mixture of buckwheat, whole wheat, and bean or nut

flours.

And then what do you do with the rest if you can't eat it? Throw it out? What

a waste!

That wasn't what my doctor and my diabetes educator told me. They told me to

subtract the fiber and the sugar alcohols, as these do not impact on the blood

sugar in most people. They also told me to get as much fiber as possible, as if

the digestible carbs were taken with lots of fiber, it would slow the absorption

of the digestible carbs and therefore not 'spike' my BG. (Fiber also keeps one

'regular.')

You do with it what I do with all kinds of things I either can't eat

or don't want to - you offer them to others, or you throw them out.

I don't feel bad about trying a food and not finishing it if it

doesn't work. That's life. More of a waste to not try things, in my

view.

I don't save much food these days. I take a good look at what might

be left over from a meal and give it a good look to decide if I'm

ever going to eat it again before it goes bad. If the answer is no,

as it always is with salads that already have dressing, for example,

I no longer save it because I think I should.

If I open something new, like the atkins barbecue sauce, and find it

disgusting, I toss it. Yes, I've spent the money, but now I know I

don't like it, and the only way to find that out is to try it.

As for the pasta, which costs around $2.00 for the box, it tastes

just like regular pasta, so if it doesn't work for you, someone

without carb issues would probably like it. Life is too short to eat

bad food or to keep bad food around... LOL

I REFUSE to live by what someone else says I can and cant eat, so, I will

eat some and if it spikes me too high, I either wont eat much of it, or will

feed it to my family. I then wont buy it any more.

I NEVER waste food. I cook enough to feed my family, with leftovers for

lunch or sometimes dinner the next night too. there is a very rare occasion

that the food doesn't get eaten, then the livestock gets it, and they

appreciate it. or the compost bin gets it. NEVER WASTE.

HOW DARE YOU. That is all I have to say.

For me its totally in the amount of food. I can eat almost everything in

small doses. And some are REAL small. Even if I eat too much pure

protein I can spike. I am made for little amounts.

Who use to eat like a big foot ball player when she is size 6 shoes and

ring size and small boned. I have to eat like a little small girl...but

that is hard!!

I think everyone, including me, said to try it and see if it works,

and if not, give it away if that works for you.

For me, if I feel like buying a pound of ground beef, using half of

it, and throwing out the rest because they don't sell it in smaller

amounts, I'm free to do so. I tend to not want to freeze meat as the

flavor deteriorates very quickly. This is my choice and works for me

in my life. I don't consider it wasteful. I bought the product,

used what I wanted of it, and got rid of it. Once I own it, I don't

owe anyone an explanation for how much, if any, I use of it.

I understand that to throw food away is to throw money away, but that

is my choice, isn't it? Time sensitive food that needs to be

refrigerated or boxes that have been opened are not accepted at the

food pantry, so that's not an option, and I'm certainly not going to

keep something I have no use for just because.

Diabetes forces me to try things quite often. And quite often, these

foods don't work for me. That's the nature of the beast.

I do not like being told what I can and cannot eat. I will not be told that

I am wasteful because I cannot use or eat something. Yes it was rude, and I

meant it to be rude. It was not directed at you. If you would have read

the " sniped " part of the message that I had in there, saying what and who

the post was directed to, there wouldn't have been an issue there.

If you only use half a pound of your meat, that is your choice. I agree

with you. I refuse to keep or eat food that I cannot eat, or is just gross

tasting.

Trying and seeing if it works was exactly my point. Bruce accused me of

being wasteful. So I threw back my response, as in what I do with foods to

not be wasteful.

If it doesn't work for you, then get rid of it, so that you aren't tempted

to eat it later. I do what I do with my foods, and others do what they do

with their food. I prefer to keep it that way, and will not stand for

someone telling me I am wasteful. So, I gave my options.
