I had a BAD attack yesterday morning, woke up in it, along with the flu or a bad cold or something. My rate hadn't been that high in a long time, so I took 400 mg. of mag. citrate and then another 400 mg. about an hour later and it stopped within an hour and 15 minutes. The rate was all over the place, very high to very low, and that really scares me as a high pulse after a low one increases the risk of pushing a clot out, right? My attacks had been lasting a minimun of 3 days ... and since I've started the magnesium I've not had one last more than 5 hours ... usually converts within 2 hours of taking magnesium. Am hoping it continues, and am delighted it worked for you! Toni CA

Guest guest
I've been in afib for a month now, and started taking the magnesium citrate a week ago (no luck yet)... I've just now taken 500 mg magnesium citrate on an empty stomach... I'll report back if the miracle happens! Stef dpotts18@... wrote: Went into a-f about 5 pm last night, doubled up on atenolol and cardizem (at suggestion of my EP) to bring the rate down from 250 (!). Stayed in a-f all night, waking every two or three hours. When I got up this morning, I tried 320 mg of magnesium citrate on an empty stomach, and converted within a half hour. Coincidence ... who knows??? My thanks to Toni for her post awhile back on this topic. I'm going to start with 160 mg a.m. and p.m. and see if this prevents my breakthroughs, now occurring every 10 days or so; and shall report back. Guest guest
I would have been electro converted this past week, except that I have been so violently ill that my dr wouldn't touch me. Before that we were just waiting for me to convert on my own, which up to now I have always done myself! I guess the " progressing " part of this condition is progressing in me! bummer.... with the diltiazim 240 and the digoxin .25 my heart has actually been ok... I'm still not back to the gym, which is bumming me out as we're going to the islands next month, but I was actually thinking to myself last evening when it was beating so slowly and ALMOST normally, that if they told me I had to live with this forever, it might not be so tragic.... this morning is another matter, as my heart is pounding and doing all kinds of wacky afib things! I think this is still left overs from whatever bug I had/have.
