Red yeast rice produces a by product chemical that is identical to a statin

drug. For that reason the fda banned its sale for any health claims

reasons.

Its still being sold as a food coloring agent which was its traditional use

in chinese cooking with a wink wink nod nod to bypass the ban.

If one wants that chemical then have a doc prescribe it and know it is

exactly the dose needed for your needs. With the red yeast form it is a

guess at best as to dose. It is now a generic drug and inexpensive called

Simvastatin, brand name Zocor.
