Falls and Happy New Year

Hi everyone,

Don said it well as usual and I second it. Happy New Year to everyone, may

it bring even better friends and research that leads to a cure. I thank all

those who have worked so hard to make the SPF a success and worked with the

Siddiques to bring others to the US to help with our problems.

I have seen a lot of falls in the emails and have had my share. Mine was

flashy but virtually painless. I bent over the dishwasher to rearrange the

last dish and fell face first in! I managed to knock the top rack off the

track and damaged the door hinge and it was Christmas Eve. I think that was

the key. It seems every year I do something on Christmas Eve or Day or very

near it. I am thinking of what I am wanting to accomplish and not focusing

on my balance. I bet some of the other falls resulted from that, whether

more visitors, trying to do things you don't do every day. The MDA Quest

magazine for December has a good article " All Fall Down " which has lots of

good ideas for planning ahead to avoid some of them. Joe also had an

excellent article in the Synapse he sent to me when I first joined the

group. Maybe someone still has a copy and Joe would let us put it in the

package y'all are working on for new " members " .

Anyway, here's hoping we all fall less and take Galen's advice when we do in

the coming year.

Regards,

Sue Ellen

- Hi Donna, I did about same thing about 10 years ago. I was

talking to my Mom and leaned over for something and fell onto the

door which was down to unload. Needless to say we had to get a new

dishwasher, but I wasn't hurt just mad. That was the first of a

series. Some a lot worse. Best to all for 2003.

Sherry, I receive it when I joined the MDA. I am sure if you call your

local chapter they will sign you up and you will receive Quest.

Sue Ellen, Yes Cirque du Soliel is amazing to see and you are right I got the

handicapped seating and they were dead center on the main level. Did have to

take the elevator to the main floor. You really don't know were to look

there is something always going on somewhere in the tent to the left, to the

right, up, down just great entertainment. Hope you go.................Flora

Sherry,

The article I talked about, " All Fall Down " , is also on the web. Check

mdausa.org under publications. They don't put the whole magazine on, just

selected articles. I went through my local MDA and get the magazine free so

don't subscribe another way. We should get something at a reduced rate once

in a while for what we put up with!

Cirque du Soleil is coming to New Orleans next month and they have a

handicapped section in the best seating area for the cost of the cheapest

seats(a difference of $20 per seat). You can even have 1 companion at that

rate. Talk about nice! It is amazing to watch on TV but sometimes it does

make me miss my aerobics. Never in a million years could I do what they do,

but I thought I was pretty good. Now I workout so I can stay upright and

that's a big challenge.

Thanks Sue. I found the site and the article . Did read that one and others.

Did check to see where our local MDA office was. It is right around the corner

at the hospital. We even have to go there today. My husbands grandmother is

back in the hospital. She has 9 lives but this time she has called and said

her goodbyes. She lost her husband of 50 years in September so this might be

it. She has had neuropathy for many years, not to mention numerous stokes, CHF,

COPD> WE will be going there today..

Cold and snowy here. Hate to go outside. Its going to be a long winter.
