Guest guest
Hi Terry- Thanks so much for asking Bart my question. I didn't get your reply on my email though and went onto the site because I missed Penny's letter (but saw 's reply-I thought " What is she talking about " ?). Anyways, as I was looking for Penny's letter I saw your reply to me on the site. So, sorry I'm so late. I wonder how many other times this has happened? Guest guest
That's kind of strange, I never saw Penny's letter either; wonder what's happening. Although I have to admit I occasionally accidentally delete something I haven't read yet, I doubt we both did that! Mostly, I just hope you find your way through the PCOS experience with positive results one way or another. Are there any mainstream treatment options for it now? I realize that it's been over 25 years since my experience. Guest guest
Hi Terry- Yes, they are just starting to use Glucophage to treat PCOS routinely now. It improves the endocrine problems associated with PCOS. They also often use birth control pills which seem to be beneficial too. I think all these problems I have are tied together (induced hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease, PCOS) but they just haven't figured out the relationships yet. I went to many doctors when my hands and fingers (sometimes knees and elbows too) got hot, swelled and very painful (then they'd pop open and bleed). None of them could figure anything out and would just through up their hands and say it must be autoimmune in nature. But when I started T3, it virtually disappeared (except for some minor episodes). Now we're almost certain that it was just hypothyroidism. My husband, Tom, is a definite convert. He now thinks that hypothyroidism isn't easy to treat at all. It's also kind of interesting because even now, I'm all achy and sore when I wake up in the morning (T3 has a very short half-life) but within a half an hour after I take my Armour, I perk up and my pain goes away. Heck! The stuff's much better than aspirin. Anyhow, thankyou very much for the advice and information. If anybody ever comes up here that does acupuncture, I'm going to try it. As for figuring out the relationships between all this stuff, I think it's remote that " they " will; it takes those of us with the combo of symptoms to prod the process along. I'm sure of it, lots of TV stories about some frantic parent desperately raising money to find a cure for a rare disease their child has (usually genetic, I think there was one on one of the news mag shows last week but caught only 2 minutes of the feature, 48 hours I think),-- they meet with success, because the answers are there but nobody's had the incentive to look before. On another note, my mother in law is now undergoing emergency brain surgery for a rapidly growing tumor, symptoms started with " losing " words mid week last week, and deterioration was incredibly fast. Those of you who do the praying could you, please? While the surgery seems not to threaten her life, the area of the brain is the cognitive. Guest guest
Hi Terry- Have you seen 'Lorenzo's Oil'? I can barely remember it but it addresses just the type of frantic parents searching for a cure for their boy that you address. I do remember it was a very good movie. I'm so sorry about your mother-in-law and will say lots of prayers for her. Take care, > , > > I'm glad theres some treatment being offered.
