Guest guest
Penny: Welcome to the group. I know when I first found this group, I was so relieved that I had found people who had been through what I was newly going through. When I was diagnosed in 9/99, the first endo I went to said not to bother with ATDs because I'd be coming back for RAI within the year anyway. I decided not to work with her, and found another doctor who would at least consider giving the medication a chance. With your slim choices, you may not find the perfect doctor, but all you need is one who is open minded enough. In any case, it is normal to start taking the antithyroid meds and sometimes a beta blocker initially, even if you are moving to RAI later, so why not start the meds, and give it a shot? That's what I did, and after a year and a half, I am much better. I am just on a minimal dose now. I'm really glad that I didn't choose RAI. There is a good book " The Thyroid Solution " by Ridha Arem, M.D. that goes over all the basic information you need to know in a rather sensitive way. You can order it from Amazon.com. Hang in there, and keep checking in with the group - you'll find your way soon.
