Guest guest
Wow , that sounds like IEP heaven!!! So glad it went so well! Do you think your experience working in the system before helped it along, or was it just a mix of good, open-minded people? Jacquie

My some miracle there was room for him- and the director said she would do all she could to help . I really didn't think she would go this far- i'm just amazed. Bringing her to the IEP meeting was very helpful and helped solidify the types of services available. I had never met anyone on the board before- and overall the school system i'm in sucks. They have the lowest test scores around. But, i plan on moving to the school north of here (where i grew up and my parents and sister still live). I'm trying to get in with that school- because I think the hard part will be getting him an aide in elem. school (if he needs one). The thing I did not expect at all- was the sense that these people on the special ed board felt SORRY for me and wanted to help as much as possible. Usually I talk a lot and take over situations (because no one is doing anything)- but today, i just sat there and nodded my head in agreement with what they said. I'm still in shock. -

Guest guest
, Glad to hear it went so well. Tuna Our First IEP Well gang, i have to say, i'm feeling very lucky this morning. We went for 's first IEP meeting and pretty much got everything we wanted. The director from his new school came and worked it all out with the board. He's going to start ST and OT at the end of the month (two hours a week of each), and then he'll start the summer session on July 1st- and will get 5 times a week speech and 3 times a week OT. They also do ABA stuff in the classroom- and the ratio is 6 kids, 1 teacher, 2 aids. They also said If i think he needs home ABA- i can apply for that later. (they don't have any therapists available right now anyway & i don't know if he can handle all those hours) I'm kinda shocked that we didn't have to fight for more stuff. I had this speech all printed out about ABA and how young kids need lots of it- as soon as possible..... but i didn't even need to say all of that. It's like they've been thru this all before- and just agreed to everything. I guess it's really good that did so poorly on all of his evals wow- i need to get out of the house now. I feel better- but emotionally drained. I LOVE NY

Guest guest
: Glad to hear that your IEP went well. Make sure you follow up on that home ABA if you think it will be helpful; the school is unlikely to do so for you even with the best of intentions.
