Guest guest
snip> Anyone ever experienced digoxin toxicity, and if so, how did you control it? I'm very concerned and curious about this. Stef Dear Stef I was on digoxin for 3 weeks, lost 16 pounds and turned into a complete zombie. All I remember is getting nauseous every time Hubby asked " What's for dinner " He learned how to cook. I was sure I was being poisoned by the drug, but that is the opposite of what you feel? I have heard digoxin wastes potassium. Ella
Guest guest
Thanks Ella, and no... what you describe is pretty much how I am, but without the zombie part... well.. my brain is a zombie, but I have good energy. I find that I am having problems spelling the most simple words, or remembering the dumbest things.... it's very disconcerting.... my potassium and calcium were low on Monday, when I was tested for dig toxicity and I feel like absolute crap still... like I have a 24 hour a day hangover.... thankfully today was my last day on digoxin, but they've switched me to Toprol and I'm afraid I'm going from the frying pan into the fire. I was on solotol two summers ago and it made me feel like I feel right now, only less energy... I'm just a mess and I'm tired of feeling horrible... I can deal with my heart racing a mile a minute.. that seems like nothing now, compared to how I feel. And I haven't cooked in more than a week.. .my husband has been having lots of sandwiches and carry out... the thought of eating makes me want to retch, but actually eating is the only thing that will temporarily make me feel better.... Guest guest
I was on Lanoxin/digoxin since the 1980's with no problems at all. I got a periodic blood test done to check the levels...too little it doesn't work and too much can do harm. I was recently taken of it by my EP and I'm not sure I agree with his decision but I'm following his recommendations for now. P <MI> ............................................. In fact, it was a total of about six weeks before I finally began to feel normal. In my experience The flu can last for weeks, and for me afib is a usual companion that visits along with the flu. I rarely get a flu virus without also having afib. Your digoxin test measured a level which you had built. The timing of one dose would possibly not make a great difference in the dig level, but you probably should ask your doctor for another dig level test to be sure that the previous test wasn't erroneous. in sinus in Seattle
Guest guest
- I did ask for another test, but instead of granting me my wish, they simply switched me to another drug. The dig worked like a charm the first week... in combination with the diltiazim, to bring my heart rate under control, but yesterday I was back to 125 with dig and diltizim, so something had obviously stopped working. I would believe that a flu could last a while, but once the bluk was over I would expect to feel even marginally better each day, which I did not.. I actually started to feel worse as the week progressed, and was back to throwing up again yesterday. It's tough to guess who's the culprit in this case since you can't really prove the flu, and my blood values for the dig were ok, but all the literature says that dig toxicity is a per person thing and can happen at very low doses. I can only hope it was the case, and that I'm on the mend now!
