Becky, I don't have a family. It's just Lynn and me. I just went through a

very nasty divorce about a year ago, and had to relocate from Colorado to PA.

And my family doesn't want anything to do with me. My own daughter won't even

talk to me. You see, it's cause my X bad mouthed me. That's the short version

of why things are the way they are. But I'm a blessed man, I have inner peace,

and although I don't have much money, cause the courts take $599.42 a month for

child support, God has brought me to a new place and with someone who truly

loves me, and has allowed me to start over.

Take care,

Hi all, and merry christmas. , so glad things are getting better for you.

Life is hard sometimes, I have been there. I am getting ready for christmas

with new husband darryl, married a little over a year, and 4 adult children

though not always acting like it. God is good here too!

one thing though, folks: yesterday I may have made an enemy, not sure. I

have a good friend who has been bringing over junk food for many years. With

onset of my diabetes he kind of stopoped but daily brings candies, cookies, etc,

as he enjoys giving to people. I gave in last week and had a hard time getting

back on track, then more stuff. I told him that he must stop bringing sugar and

pushing it on me. oh it is my own fault when I eat it, but am just tired of

explaining every day. My daughter got on his case and he left, abruptly. Does

anyone know a way to explain to the well-meaning but stubborn folks?

to explain to a non diabetic in plain and simple terms when they bring you

goodies. just tell the that sugar is poison to your system. and to have the

goodies in the house is just simple temptation when you are weak. we have all

Vicky, If you have already explaioned to him why you can't eat that sort of

stuff and he keeps on brining it, then I think your daughter did the right

thing. It is his problem if he doesn't want to accept what you want. If he

really wants to bring you something, explain that a flower would be nice and

I know the feeling very well, as I went through that situation myself only a few

years ago. Unfortunately, when there are children involved, some mothers,

[certainly in my case], can brainwash the children against their fathers, and

it's only just now that my daughter has recently got back in touch, and started

talking with me.

Unfortunately, when I went through my divorce 8 years ago, Not that I couldn't

look after myself, but, with the combination of both the worry and the upset of

the breakdown of my marriage, and the stress of the uncertainty of my job at the

Bank, being they were doing away with my position along with other customers

service personnel within the local branches, which were all taking place at the

same time, didn't help me to keep my diabetes under control as I would have

liked.

Like you, I have been lucky in finding a second wife. came over from the

States, not long after losing her daughter to Cancer at the age of 18 and a

half. We therefore, had each other to look after. Not only does she care about

me as a person, but, is also trying to understand how to look after me with my

diabetes.

Just explain to him that you are a diabetic, and you can't eat all that sweet

stuff. He should get it. I know when people offer me a candy bar, and I tell

them I'm a diabetic, they understand.

And like I said in an earlier post, this year, I'm truly blessed. I have a

house to live in, food to eat, and someone who truly loves me. I don't have any

money, but I've accepted that, and am not angry about having to pay high support

payments. I feel that god will provide me with a good job in his time.

Hi Vicki

Yes, this is a hard time of year for those of us with a sweet tooth and

friends who like to bring treats. I don’t usually have people pushing

sweets on me personally, but where I work, people are often bringing in home

made goodies such as fudge to leave at the front desk. As I am filling in

for the receptionist every morning in December, dealing with the smell from

these sweets and trying to keep my hands off of them is difficult.

Regarding your friend, just explain that you are concerned about your health

and need to make that a priority. Explain that there are sugar free candies

he could bring but that even those should be eaten in moderation. Suggest

that he perhaps take you to lunch or just spend time doing something fun

that doesn’t involve eating with you as a Christmas gift.

Hope this helps.

Dear peoples on this list. Most of the time I am able to pretty much stay off

the high sugar stuff. Once in a grate while I'll cheat a little but that is

mainly on holidays like Christmas or thanksgiving or on birthdays. Other then

that I turn down sugar stuff. Lately my main trouble has been eating to much

and on certain foods like hotdogs and hamburgers things like that I have a

habit of having more then one and it has really cause my bloodsugars to go up

and down and now am taking more than one medication. Need your prair that I

can develop a good habit for a change. Take care, Sincerely Bower.

Hi,

I guess a lot of people are used to eating too much. Try eating 2 just

hamburgers-and one bun-or even half a bun. Several of the fast food places

out here in California are making hambugers without buns-wrapping them in

lettuce leaves. They are very good that way; very mess, but good!
