Sounds like you're in my area ... who is doing your ablation and where?

Thanks.

48 hours from right now I'll be undergoing the ablation procedure for

my A. Flutter. So, I'll be sure to post my experience and you'll

have at least one story you can go by. I've received a couple emails

from people who have undergone it (and I thank you very much for the

emails!) and from what I gather there is no real pain at all. Maybe

some discomfort from the pressure bandage from the catheter but

that's it. Recovery time is a couple days of just taking it easy but

no being bed ridden or anything. And, I've been told that I can

begin exercising after about 10 days. I'm very anxious to get this

done so I can get off the Toprol and I've already gotten off the

coumadin.

-Dear spfzrow,

or may I call you " sp "

Try looking at my other posts. I have described the ablation

procedure that I went through on a couple of occasions. Compared

with many procedures that I have heard of, it's a walk in the park!

Best of luck and let's hope they get you sorted first time around.

regards,

Bob

Formerraptor:

The ablation isn't bad at all. I had one about 3 weeks ago. The prep was

painless (just some shaving around the groin.) I don't remember the actual

procedure because I was out. Later when I woke up there was little pain, just

some soreness in the groin area. There will be some discomfort from the sand

bags they keep on the areas where the catheter was inserted to make sure they do

not bleed.

I wasn't able to eat the next day and when I forced myself to have breakfast it

came up about an hour later. So, I suggest you listen to your body in deciding

when to eat solid food.

Take it easy for several days. I think the aftereffects of the anesthesia is

worse than the soreness from the ablation. My doctor also told me to wait about

3-5 days before resuming exercize but I think at least 2 weeks is more

realistic. Also, take it easy at first. I had no a-fib until I started running

approx. 2 weeks after the ablation. I don't know if was related to the running

but I have backed off since then. (I am walking instead.)

I will probably start running again sometime this week.

Take a good book to read while you are waiting in the hospital. It will take

your mind off the procedure. Also, talk to the nurses and staff. They will

probably enjoy the conversation and will tell you when and if its time to shut

up.

Good luck.

I had a PVA done 8/2002 and all has been well. It has left me with PVC's alot

controled very well with a beta blocker. If that is the worst I'll take it.

Dr. Feld at UCSD.

I've been getting zapped at Scripps at Torrey Pines, but it's gotten

to where they won't do it any more, as I pop back in the next day.

Scripps referred me to Dr. Feld...and UCSD.

Thanks
