Guest guest
Hi Loriann - As I understand it, this can vary from restaurant to restaurant within the chain. When I have gotten an onion ring with my fries I always assumed it was from the way they throw stuff around while packaging. Onion rings will drop into the fries and no one seems to notice. Anyway, after reading the various experiences of people on this list I have decided that it is best to go into the fast food restaurants rather than using the drive thru. That way you can see about the friers, you can tell them to their face what you need, and then watch as they get your food. Most CAN do it GF, you just have to get them to pay attention. Sue in Denver > Well, I guess I can't eat at my Mc's anymore. We ate out Thursday. DH wanted Arby's, and I knew I couldn't get the fries there, so while he was at Mc's for the kids he got me an order of fries. Half way through my fries, my youngest son (no sypmtoms of CD yet) found an onion ring. I figured the damage was done so I finished my fries. It wasn't a strong reaction, but last night it started with a bit of discomfort and this morning I'm bloated with a bit of stomach pain and a lot of gas. I was told a year ago that they had dedicated fryers, so I guess things have changed. I guess I'll have to sit down and call the different fast food chains and see which ones have dedicated fryers and (most importantly) if their employees know they're dedicated fryers. A burger just isn't a burger without fries. > > > Loriann aka Flitter the Christian clown and Celiac Disease > Wife to Dewight, USNavy Retired > Mom to , 15, Down Syndrome, PDD-NOS and Celiac Disease > and , 5 and ADHD
Guest guest
McD's around here do not make onion rings, though Burger King does, so I've not had this problem with McDs. A good way to check is go in because many McD's will keep their fries fryer in the front area (just behind the counter) while the fryer for all the rest is in the back where the rest of the food prep work is done. Where do you live? If McDs in your area does make onion rings, I would check to be certain that they are not cooked in the fries fryer (since McDs Corp calls their fries GF, I believe this would be against corporate policy, but who knows what each store might do.) Since my family travels a bit and McDs has been a pretty good bet for us, this is important info! Lol! > Well, I guess I can't eat at my Mc's anymore. We ate out Thursday. Guest guest
I’ve never seen onion rings at any McD’s on the west coast or southwest. Maybe your local McD’s is locally owned….can locally owned restaurants add their own menu items? If it were me, I’d investigate more before crossing them off my list, since we have such few choices in that department.

Guest guest
Mc's doesn't make onion rings at all...Burger King does. Guest guest
No, they can't. And if it was an option at all, it would show up on their nutrition information on the web. ________________________________ From: SillyYaks on behalf of and Jill McCutcheon Sent: Sun 5/29/2005 10:19 AM To: SillyYaks Subject: RE: Re: Disappointment with Mc's I've never seen onion rings at any McD's on the west coast or southwest. Guest guest
I got sick on McDs fries about 6 yrs ago and have not had them since.
Guest guest
I also have gotten an onion ring in my fries at burger king. It reminded me that my hubby and I used to bet on who would get the onion ring in our bk fries. We used to tease that it was a requirement for them to include 1 onion ring in each order of fries. This was my pre celiac days when we were still dating. ~**~ Proud USAF Wife of Tony Proud Mom of TJ, age 6 Come see our family! www.wagnonfamily.com Check out my yahoo groups~*~Moms ROCK~*~Silly-Yak Recipes Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle Re: Disappointment with Mc's It's funny it turned out to be Burger King's cause I thought Immediately of BK when you said that, 'cause even though they use rice flour on their fries, the one time i got them i found an onion ring in the carton. Boo hiss, BK. My husband makes a carrot cake to die for with a cream cheese frosting- the nice thing about carrot cakes or things like that, is that you can pretty much straight substitute rice or GF blend and it turns out quite well... Guest guest
I have to say that while my kids and husband can eat McDs fries without reacting, because of the types of oils they use, they make me SO sick! (Meanwhile, BK fries, that we don't trust because of cross contamination issues now, are fine.) > I got sick on McDs fries about 6 yrs ago and have not had them since.
