Hi all!

My name is Sherlyn, 40, and a stay at home mom to fraternal twin boys that just turned 5 last week. I have recently been diagnosed with Insulin Resistance. I have weighed around 200 pounds for close to 10 years now. The only time I lost much of it was believe it or not - during my pregnancy. I dropped 40 pounds, all from throwing up constantly for 8.5 months :( I kept it off for the duration of my nursing the boys (8 months) then the second I stopped nursing, the 40 pounds came magically back on.

Anyway - last year I discovered that I had high blood pressure. They put me on a diuretic. I hated it, and it made me SO thirsty that I drank through the med any way. So I started to exercise regularly and tried to diet. Well all of the exercise helped the blood pressure - it is currently at 120/80 again. But I just couldn't shed any pounds. So this fall I started going to Weight Watchers. I still couldn't lose much weight. But then I went back into my doctor and she ran the blood work. My blood sugar was way high, and my cholesterol is a disaster. She recommended this diet.

I've been on it for 4 days now. So far - I feel great! Yesterday I felt sluggish while I was swimming, and I had a bit of a head-ache later in the afternoon, but I think that was from staying up too late. DH & I had gone out to a movie the night before.

During the last couple of days I've been really proud of myself. I've been on a jury. I've been trapped in a room filled with people eating fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, coleslaw, potato chips, candy bars, and doughnuts. I brought all my own food with me and stayed on plan during the entire 2 days. Yesterday I succumbed to 5 little peppermint candies - my salad had lots of garlic on it, and once I had one, I had another one every time I came back into the room. Today I stopped by the drug store on my way in and got some sugar free candies.

I'd love to hear from anyone that has successfully brought their Insulin Resistance or Diabetes into better control through this diet.
