Guest guest
The scale is not the most efficient way to measure changes in your body. Have you considered that with all the exercise you're getting toner muscles, building them up more? This would weigh more on the scale, but if you checked measurements you would notice more of a change. Maybe your hang-up shouldn't be the scale, but some other measurement of your body? I know when I first started exercising I gained weight, but my clothes were getting real big on me...muscle. When I was used to the exercise the scale started stopping. I know I lost inches, even when the scale went up a pound or two with muscle. If you have a lot of muscle in your body, your number on the scale might need to be higher...and that's all it is, a number. Guest guest
What is your height and weight? You say you need to lose 10 pounds....you need to give yourself more time. Your lack of patience will make this worse for yourself. Even if you do not see a loss in 2-4 weeks...you may recognize this may not be for you then maybe try something else. What do your doctors say...do you need to lose these 10 pounds or is it all about the training? -Beth nd weight. I can RE: Anyone else not losing weight with SBD?? I first joined a gym when I was 13, I am 31 now, so exercise is nothing new to me. Guest guest
Bodies change...maybe you can perform them but not like you used to. This happens. -Beth Anyone else not losing weight with SBD?? I'm wondering if I am the only one who has not lost in phase one of SBD, or if there's anyone else on this listserv who hasn't? Guest guest
I agree....you also did say you were obsess about your food intake. You may want to think about how you think about yourself. You may want to join a yahoo athlete/training group to see if they have any ideas. You say you have tried everything and i know this was mentioned before maybe your body needs to stay where it is? -Beth RE: Anyone else not losing weight with SBD?? I know - I've got the triple whammy I guess - ate healthy before SBD, not a lot of weight to lose, and metabolic problem. I get so frustrated sometimes I'm either like, why try, or maybe I should do 'starvation diet' because nothing else works! I do enjoy exercising, and love my sports. But i don't enjoy them as much when I can't perform the way I should because I'm just too heavy. And yeah, it's frustrating to watch others lose weight, even cheat or not workout and lose, and when you are doing things the right way and staying the same!!! Guest guest
I am 5 ft 3 and 140-142 pounds. I have not lost weight since I gained the 15 lbs last fall (2003) when my asthma got bad and I gained it in six weeks, not eating bad just not training as usual. I've been trying for over a year, and it's not moved. I did manage to get down about five pounds earlier this year but it just went back up again, who knows why. I don't think trying for a year is lack of patience. My doctors want me at 120-125 as well and it is because they want a healthy weight for me too, and also for my sports. Also, if I can't lose the weight now at age 31, they said the problem isn't going to get better with time and as I get older and bigger and still not able to lose no matter what, my chances for diabetes, heart problems, etc get even worse as well. I know I can try something else after 2-4 weeks, but feel like I've tried it all! I thought South Beach was something new and had heard good things about it, I didn't want to get my hopes up but still! Also it's kind of frustrating when you have a friend who started the same day and calls and says things like - "I'm down 11 lbs now!" - and you want to be supportive etc but it sort of rubs it in. Like I said I don't want to not be supportive and cut her off from sharing, I am happy for her and everyone else, just kind of hard when nothing seems to be happening or gaining. sorry for venting - I am sticking in there!! but just gets frustrating sometimes, not just with the scale and clothing to remind you but also when you are running laps, etc, and are slow as molasses. -Amie From: -Beth Sent: Monday, December 13, 2004 8:49 AMTo: South-Beach-Diet-Getting-It-Right Subject: Re: Anyone else not losing weight with SBD?? Guest guest
None - now. I am making myself better through alternative therapies now. Occasionally I use albuterol before exercise. I was on Flovent (whatever the highest is), Singulair/Accolate, Advair, Albuterol daily, Zyrtec/Zyrtec D, I can't remember what all else. At one point I was taking nine medications for it, after my severe attack in which I was taken away by an ambulance in October after mile 13 of the Chicago marathon last year, because of an attack in which I could not breathe at all. That had not happened before - I was just diagnosed with asthma earlier last year and didn't know what was going on, it was probably one of the scariest events in my entire life. So my fear of exercising for six weeks past that point (heck I was scared to even walk fast down the street) plus all the medications that they put me on (which also made me sleep all the time and become a zombie when awake) as well as being undiagnosed hypothyroid, are when I gained all the weight. And it's been hell to pay to lose it!! -Amie From: Owen Sent: Monday, December 13, 2004 8:40 PMTo: South-Beach-Diet-Getting-It-Right Subject: Re: Anyone else not losing weight with SBD?? Guest guest
Hi Nur, I am totally a believer in food for medicine! It's how I got myself off of a lot of dr. prescribed chemicals and back on the road to being healthy again. Yes - I have kelp with my soups and also seaweed (being part Japanese it's easier for me). I noticed a big difference almost immediately with my energy levels after having it. In fact I have to watch that i don't eat it too late in the day. On that note, I'm looking for a good book to keep as a reference on foods that heal etc. (I think there's one by that name). Any recommendations? thanks!
