Guest guest
Aliceanne, This is information that should be shared with the group, so I'm copying it to the list. My avenues for getting books are a bit different from most people's, so you can't go by my experience. However, Fatbrain.com was advertising pre-orders on that book, and apparently they have stopped. That was a puzzle, so I phoned the company, talked to Lateefah, and said, essentially, " What the hey? " Lateefah said, " I've never seen anything before like this. Usually, we do take pre-orders on a book when we know the publication date, but we're not taking pre-orders on this one. The web site says 'New Arrival,' but the book is not in stock. That must mean that we expect to get the book soon, but we don't have it yet and we don't know when we will have it in stock. " I questioned the " 7/01 " publication date quoted on the site, and she said that " 7/01 " could mean any time in the month of July; it does not mean the first of July. Since PMIC's sales department representative told CCC's purchasing agent that the book would be available " hopefully, in late July or early August, " my conclusion (unsupported by scientific data--just Woman's Intuition) is that the company doesn't know WHEN that book will be rolling off the presses and packed in shipping cartons. The closest they have been able to get their printer to commit to an official date is probably " around the first of August, or sooner if we can. " And that's all I know about that! *grin* Valeria At 02:28 PM 7/2/2001, Alice A Sawyer wrote: >When I got on line I was told not currently stocked so I don't know how >you got to preorder it? >Aliceanne >--------- Forwarded message ---------- > >To: Alice A Sawyer >Date: Mon, 02 Jul 2001 14:06:48 -0400 >Subject: Re: (KMM6757172C0KM) >Message-ID: > >Dear Customer: > >We have received your email regarding preorders. > >If a title is not yet released and is advertised on our site for >purchase, then you can place an order. Guest guest
No, just Fatbrain's peculiar marketing approach and PCIM's peculiar dealings with other booksellers. Could be they want to be able to sell it from their website (where they definitely advertise pre-stock orders but at a higher price) first.
