Guest guest
Hi I always test first thing in the morning. Some days, that is the only time I test even though I know I am supposed to do it several times a day. I was told to take my medicine about a half hour before eating, so that is what I do. Although I know others who take it with their meals. I think you probably need to talk to your own doctor and ask some of the questions you are asking here. Take care. Yesterday i said i fasted and tested when i got up in the morning, and my sugar was 158, okay is it a good policy to always check your sugar the first thing in the morning, do some of you just go by how you feel in other words if you feel pretty good you might wait and test later in the day, second how many times do most of you test in a day more then once and just for the record i tested this morning and it was 118. secondly i notice that sometines and by the way i am on met formin if i eat then take my dose after i eat a few hours later i feel like crap<grin> but if i take my dose before i eat then eat it seems to be better anyone else have this issue. thanks for all your help and looks like its getting better in terms of my getting enough blood on the strip. Guest guest
As far as I know the sugar meter (blood glucose monitor) is the diabetics best friend. It does not put you down and it does not praise you. It only tells you how it is. I cannot tell what my bs is by looking in the mirror or even how I feel. My wife and relatives cannot tell what my bs level is by watching me. The only way to know for sure is to do a bs test. After mastering bs level control I have gotten my bs testing down to four or five times per day. Initially, while learning carb counting and insulin dosage, which you are not concerned with since you use oral meds, I would recommend at least six tests per day or maybe seven. These would be a pre-prandial test and a two hour post prandial test, which would constitute six test per day, and for good measure I would also do a bedtime bs test. Once you have mastered bs level control, I think you could get by with just four bs tests per day. In my opinion the number of bs tests per day is determined by how much mastery you wish to achieve. No pain, no mastery. If your two hour post prandial bs level is above 120, you are consuming too many carbs or you are not taking enough meds dosage either oral or injectable insulin. Get your doctor to prescribe at least six bs tests per day. The rationale would be to master bs level control and maintain tight bs levels. I hope this helps. morning all Greetings all happy holidays from denver, okay as i said in many ways i am a newby at all this, so a few question if you all please. Guest guest
, as you will learn, everyone is different and even the same thing that applied to you yesterday may not tomorrow. I am still trying to let that one sink in, but I hear it from everyone, so it must be true. I am taking Metformin 750 and I was told to take it before bed; there was no mention of around meals. But, that could be a difference in the doctors. As I said earlier, I am still waking high, but can stay in range the rest of the day, so I don't know if that means I need adjustment of the Metformin or that is just normal for me. I see the doctor Tuesday, so can get some idea. I am new like you and this will only be my third visit post diagnosis, so we are still learning. The best! Guest guest
, jI ALWAYS check fasting BG in the morning and often a couple of hours afterwards too see if the insulin (I’m type 1) has covered what I ate. You really should take your meds before eating as it helps keep yourBG down after you eat. I test about 6 times a day and more often if ill. morning all Greetings all happy holidays from denver, okay as i said in many ways i am a newby at all this, so a few question if you all please.
