Hello, Mark

I have had my Prodigy meter do readings below the numbers you have given

i.e. 48 (verified by the Accucheck) and couple of times, it has given even

lower-even though I knew it was not accurate-I did not get enough blood on

it! Did you tell the Prodigy about what is happening? I am just wondering

what their response was.s

Prodigy Meter

Hello,

A couple of weeks ago I felt that my blood sugar was getting low, so I

tested it with my Prodigy meter and got a result of 68 mg/dl. I ate a few

grapes and went on with what I was doing. A little later I developed all of

the symptoms of dangerously low blood sugar that I had learned to recognize

over the years, symptoms such as weakness, sweating, and light headedness.

Again the Prodigy gave me a reading of 68 mg/dl. Based on many, many years

of diabetes I knew that wasn't right, so I tested with my Accu-Check meter

and got a reading of 34 mg/dl. Not wanting to die because of a faulty meter

I threw that Prodigy meter away and bought a new one. Since then I have been

doubling up on all of my tests, using both the Accu-Check and the new

prodigy for each test.

While doing these double tests for several days I found that the two meters

agree closely as long as my sugar is either high or in the normal range, but

that the Prodigy will never give me a reading below 68 mg/dl, even when my

glucose goes lower than that. The two lowest readings that I have had were a

46 on the Accu-Check, with a corresponding 69 on the prodigy, and a 55 on

the Accu-Check with a corresponding 71 on the prodigy.

I put fresh batteries in the new prodigy, opened a fresh bottle of strips,

checked that the code number setting on the Prodigy matched the code from

the bottle of strips, and tested with a fresh bottle of test solution. The

test results were OK, but the prodigy still will not ever give me a reading

below 68. Has anyone else on the list ever had a problem like this?

By the way, while I was on the phone buying the new prodigy meter I asked

about the improved Prodigy, the one with increased vocalization, that is

supposed to be on the market soon. the sales person said that the new meter

will test blood pressure as well as glucose, will cost about $89, and is

supposed to be available by the end of the year. I certainly wouldn't bet on

it actually being available that soon, but i am at the top of the waiting

list so they will call me as soon as the new meter arives. I will let the

list know as soon as that happens.

Hi ,

Thanks for the reply. At least I know that not everyone is having the same

problem with the Prodigy meter. I will notify Prescriptions Plus, where I got

the meter, and also do some more parallel tests using both Prodigy and

Accu-Check.

Hi,

I was told by the place I got my meter from that

some of the first batch had some problems with

them. I had to get another one sent to me and

every since this one has been working fine.

Hi , Mark and list

I am a bit worried reading this thread about the Prodigy not being accurate.

I recently bought one mainly for it’s small compact size as opposed to the

Accu-Chek and the fact that it has to be put into the Voice Mate. I thought

the Prodigy was great at first but have noticed a small problem. After I

stick my finger, if the beep does not occur within a few seconds, the

reading is almost always extremely low. Since I have felt fine and was sure

my reading could not be as low as indicated on the occasions this has

happened, I have gotten out a new strip and tested again. I feel confident

the reading is correct when the beep and subsequent voice readout occur

quickly. But if I have to wait for the beep, I know not to trust the

reading.

Hi Becky,

First of all, welcome to the list! Second, maybe you are pressing the strip

too close to the finger so it cannot suck up anymore blood. The meter then

runs out of time to fill and it uses what you have for the blood in the

strip and gives you a low reading. I have done this and like you, re-do the

test. The Prodigy has to do accuracy studies and tests to get FDA approved,

so not to worry.

That is true, Becky. Usually that means you have not enough blood on the

end of this strips when the beep is delayed. I have found that so also.

Hi,

I had posted this, but never saw it show up. If it appears again please accept

my apologies. A few on the list are more in touch with the Prodigy meter, and

I'm wondering if they have any idea when the updated model, which is supposed to

be more accessible, is expected to be available? Also, in the mean time, before

I find a place to purchase the meter and strips through one of the promotions

that are bound to be out there, who might have the best price right now on

buying a single bottle of strips? Many thanks.

Just to be sure, this is the meter with improved accessibility, right? And, is

it considerably more accessible, in that we can replay readings and access the

downloaded data/readings? Can we also adjust settings such as time and date?

Where's the best place/site to get the best deal? Many thanks.

you can do. I havenot looked at the web site, so can't ell you what it

Hi,

I didn't no it was out already. Do we have to

purchase this meter again or do we trade our old

one for a replacement one. If not, then where

can we get this new one from and how much it cost?

So, they didn't come through with many of the accessibility improvements we

could have hoped for? I guess I was under the impression we would be able to at

last replay readings. I was on the web site, which I've placed below, but I

can't find anything that suggests the features we would like.
