Guest guest
Hi , I won't dispute what you are saying. My daughter does want certain vaccines given to the youngest child, but she is also going to make sure they are of the purest form and given one at a time. The way the drug companies mfg. them now is not very safe. I have several friends whose children are now autistic and yes it most definitely be traced to the MMR shot...1 to the DPT. These shots contain Mercury, signs for autism and mercury poisoning are almost exactly the same, some say they are the same. When a dr. gives 3/4 of the triple shots to a child they are overdosing them with more mercury than is safe for an adult male at 6' 225 pounds. We just need to be very very careful in how we allow these shots to be given to our children. It is so hard to get accurate figures from the CDC/VAERS/Studies NOT funded by the drug companies to find out how many children are permanently damaged or die each year from receiving the shots as they currently are given. Your right, read and learn all you can before making any final decision on if your child should be immunized or not...or HOW you want them immunized. The vaccines my daughter chooses for the youngest child will be given individually, thimerasol free (not just reduced) they will contain no formaldehyde, tin aluminum or live virus. Before being given boosters of any, they will be titered to see if any are necessary and there will be at least a 90 day period between shots, and none will be given if he so much as a sniffle or a slight temp. For now, my daughter will be taking the boys more than 2 hours from here to achieve this...and even though the youngest will receive certain vaccines, she will take the medical waiver in NY State to not have him vaccinated. They will be vaccinated in the state of Pa. I also think that once the new federal law is passed holding the drs. and nurses responsible for adverse reactions you will see a huge jump in the number of pediatricians who will opt to not give them or will give them the safest way possible. Now they are given the most economical and profit making way for them. My only wish is that this bill would also hold the drug companies responsible also...then they would find a much safer way to vaccinate children. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
Hi all, Just had to add my two cents after 's message. Despite my concerns over vaccinations (primarily the massive amount given at once at early, early ages), I felt that not only the risk of disease to my children, but a larger social responsibility to prevent the spread or re-emergence of some pretty horrible illnesses, meant I should vaccinate my kids. I did. Then, my second child had a vaccine related seizure at two months. It took her six weeks to get her tongue back in her mouth. The pediatric neurologist called it a " neurological incident " and suggested we proceed with all vaccinations except the DTaP, the suspected culprit. However, the neurologist wasn't *certain* that was the troublesome shot, and wasn't *certain* that any immunization would not cause further neurological damage. So I sit on the other end of the spectrum, having watched my own child seize, froth at the mouth, scream and suffer for hours and then nearly lose her ability to nurse after that. Do I need to say it: we haven't given her a single other shot to this date. I am very torn about this issue--I think it is much more complex than vaccinate or not. I think we have a social responsibility to improve public health, as well as a responsibility to our own children. I don't think immunizations are bad or wrong. But I don't think that we, as a culture, have perfected how we produce and administer these powerful substances. I do think that some children suffer incredibly because of them; some children are left -- as the pediatric neurologist said she couldn't omit as a consequence for our daughter, Scarlett-- severely disabled after receiving vaccines to which they have a horrific, unexpected response. Clearly, this is not a clear cut issue. But some of the questions to address are: why so many shots at once and at a young age? Why not space one shot at a time, begin some at later ages? Why develop a vaccine for chicken pox, which is about as fatal the flu -- meaning, yes it can be fatal but for most children, it is not. I hope everyone thinks about this issue vaccines > Hi just thought I would respond to the vaccine controversy. I can understand that we all don't want our children or grandchildren to suffer from auto immune diseases like ourselves but what of the consequences of the potential diseases? I realize the risk may seem small to acquire whooping cough or measles but do you know how serious the side effects of these diseases can be? I am a pediatric ICU/ maternal child nurse and have seen first hand terrible side effects from lack of immunization. I have in my career seen at least four deaths or serious brain damage due to encephalitis directly related to young children getting measles. It is just horrible to see a perfectly normal child end up dead or so brain damaged they will never talk, walk, or eat on their own. As far as whooping cough, the cough related to this is so rotten, endless like you are coughing a lung out. You can also cough up blood and scar your lungs for life. I have seen kids end up on ventilators because of this . IT is extremely contagious also. Before jumping the gun here please explore everything first , like does the benefit outway the risk. I am not trying campaign for the drug companies here just trying to make sure we are all educated before making decisions that could impact our precious childrens lives. In my case all my children have been immunized. I have seen one too many harmful effects for me to take the risk. Thanks for hearing me, I. > > >
Guest guest
Hi Jody, Thanks for the great info. I'd like to add that the point in this doesn't seem to be no vaccines as much as limiting them to the smallest dose necessary of only the necessary vaccines. The 39 pre-school vaccines now recommended are too much for young immune systems. Also, much of the discussion is around multiple vaccines and the ease of giving too many vaccines at one time, overburdening immune systems. Something else that I don't know much about is the possibility of using homeopathic vaccines. From what little I've read, they follow the same principle as conventional vaccines but lack the potency and predilection for causing side effects. While vaccines are necessary for the prevention of a small number of diseases, there is a need for careful delibertion, questioning the current system, and following one's personal beliefs before merely accepting things at face value. Guest guest
Hi - We also had our son immunized as the pediatrician recommended. And if I do get pregnant again, I'll get the next one immunized too. The concern I have is overstimulating an immature immune system by too many vaccines at once. We didn't evolve to withstand an onslaught of serious diseases at one time and I hesitate to expose a baby's immature immune system to them all at once. I know that there's the popular belief that babies are only protected by their mother's immune system when she's breastfeeding for the 1st 3 months but that doesn't make sense to me. Antibodies are small enough to pass through to breastmilk so I went ahead and breastfed for the first 2 years. The result is anecdotal, I know, but my son was never very sick with flus and colds the first 2 years (if he got sick at all) while I'd be half-dead with them. After I stopped breastfeeding my son, he started coming down with all sorts of things. Anyways, I think vaccines are important too and my next baby (if I'm lucky enough to get pregnant) will have the very important ones staggered (1 month between shots). After 2, everything's fair game (but I'll still stagger them). I don't know if I'd go this route if I wasn't able to breastfeed my baby. My husband is exposed to all sorts of nasty things and he brings them home with him so I'd worry about a baby contracting things. Under these circumstances, I'd probably follow the current vaccination schedule recommended by the pediatrician. Anyhow, what do you think of this approach? My husband thinks that since there aren't any studies that show a definite relationship between vaccines and later autoimmune disease, we should follow the pediatrician's schedule. He'll go by what I decide though as long as our baby gets the vaccinations. You bring up a very good point and I think people forget how horrible and scary it was (and how many people died or were permanently disabled) in the days before vaccinations. If I had a choice between living with the medical options available now or the ones that we had 60 years ago, I'd choose to live in the present. Even though medicine didn't serve me well related to Graves', it has with everything else. Take care, vaccines > Hi just thought I would respond to the vaccine controversy. Guest guest
Hi , I hope Scarlett is doing fine now! Did you and/or your dr. report this to VAERS? Less than 10% of the drs. nation wide report any adverse reactions so nothing gets done about cleaning them up and making them safer...that is one reason why VAERS has changed who can report adverse reactions...now parents have the legal right to call them or report to them online and they want to know ANY adverse reaction that a child has, no matter how small it may seem. It is the only way they can get things changed. Thank you for sharing what happened with us. I am not completely anti vaccine, but I do think we have to give them as purely as possible, as safely as possible and AFTER their immune systems have had a chance to develop...according to the head of the Erie County Health Department age 3 is a 'safer' age to begin slowly vaccinating a child when there is any auto immune disorders in their family. Something every one of us needs to think about here. To those that have asked for the URL's I will get them out soon. In the mean time you can sign up for FEAT at www.feat.org it is very much geared towards the autistic community but they supply a ton of vaccine information both pro and con and many suggestions for how to give vaccines safely. Guest guest
Hi , Have to say something here about this... >>>>You bring up a very good point and I think people forget how horrible >>>>and scary it was (and how many people died or were permanently disabled) >>>>in the days before vaccinations. <<<< When I was a child if one child in the neighborhood got the measles, mumps, rubella and chicken pox...our parents sent us to play with them hoping we would contract these childhood diseases. I had mumps on both sides at the same time, and even now, 44 years later I remember how sick I was BUT I now have a lifelong natural immunity to these illness. In this day and age, permanent disability or death from these 4 diseases is much less than drs. make it out to be. And when children are vaccinated and boostered for these diseases, it does not always mean a lifelong immunity to them. So kids who are now 30 (my daughter included, who was vaccinated) are having children, who haven't had these diseases but only the vaccines can now catch these diseases from their children who have been vaccinated with any vaccine containing a live virus...so I think if I were a parent just beginning to have children, I would get titers done to see if I had any immunity before vaccinating my children. These diseases are much worse and less tolerated by an adult. Just something else to think about, especially because we do have immune system problems. This is also why the live polio vaccine was pulled from the shelves last June. It is no longer given as cases were popping up throughout the US (and GB I believe) where parents who had been vaccinated as children contracted paralytic polio from their children who had been recently vaccinated with live virus. I believe it is the end of next year, 2002, that the AIDS vaccine will be ready for 'our children' it will contain the live virus...do you really want that injected into your child before his/her immune system has developed or at all? The Hib vaccine is causing many deaths when given to the very young babies...I *think* it is somewhere on the CDC site, if not I will have to ask someone else where that report is. Many community health centers are not giving it any more. Anyhow...I didn't mean to go so off topic and have it continue...but when NY State is allowing medical waivers for our children from vaccines because a close relative has an auto immune disease, I thought it should be shared. Hope no one minds to much. And no one should say a definite NO to vaccinating their children...but I do believe that looking into the pros and cons of how children are vaccinated and finding the safest way to do it should be considered. Take care all, and I hope I didn't offend anyone by starting this thread. Guest guest
Hi Jody- No problem at all. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't have my son vaccinated against Hep B because there is very little risk that he'd contract it at that age. Same with an AIDS vaccine. However, if the virus of those diseases mutated (a distinct possibility) and they became easier to contract, I'd reconsider. Diseases aren't static so unless a particular bacteria or virus is completely erradicated, procedures (however effective) that may (or may not) have served us well in the past will have to be adjusted accordingly. Anyhow, there aren't really any black and whites regarding this. Just shades of gray. Guest guest
Hi again Jody- I forgot to mention that there's always the risk of new outbreaks of disease because of immigration and world travel. I'm not an isolationist at all but here in the San Joaquin Valley we have problems with polio and measles in unvaccinated migrant children. So these diseases would have to be erradicated worldwide if we didn't want to worry about the risks of contracting them. I had measles as a child and didn't think it was a big deal (mumps too). So I didn't realize how serious it could be in very small children. So that's the dilemma. In this day of such a mobile population, how do you keep an unvaccinated baby away from such risks? Even if I kept a baby pretty much at home, he/she would still be exposed to any disease that my husband treats when he's at the hospital. And please don't apologize for bringing this up. It's a very appropriate thing for all of us to discuss. I sure wish the risk-benefit decisions weren't so difficult though. Guest guest
, Hi again <g> I still don't think measles are that big a deal. So some children die from having the disease. Yes they do, but if HONEST studies were reported I believe we would all see that deaths and permanent disabilities from vaccines for these childhood diseases are much higher. I have a friend who lost the sight in his right eye from getting shingles in his eye...he got the shingles from his kids who had recently (within months, but drs. have all said this is how he got it) vaccinated with the chicken pox vaccine...and had the chicken pox as a child. I just think many many drs. (especially 40 and younger) and the drug mfg. are making it sound like all the childhood diseases sound much worse than they truly are. After all new parents, 35 or younger really never went through these diseases...so who do they get their information from...ppl making billions and billions of dollars off of government mandated vaccines filled with additives that injure and kill our children. Oh well...my opinion...I do agree though, with Tom working where he does, Tavis is at greater risk. But there has to be a dr. out there that would do any more vaccines Tavis needs in a pure form. I will get you Dr. Roy Kerry's phone number and address if you would like it. He is out of Greenville, Pa and he mixes the vaccines in the office as needed, without the additives and never more than ONE vaccine is given at a time with a 90 day period in between them. You could contact his office and see if they could put you in touch with someone in your area that would do the same for the balance of Tavis's vaccines. Another thing about Dr. Kerry, none of his grandchildren have been, nor will be vaccinated. More and more drs. are coming around to seeing the dangers in the current circumstances. In NY State, once the drs. and the nurses who give vaccines as they are currently done are held responsible you will see a lot more on the *caution* wagon and working to get how they are mfg. and given changed. Guest guest
Hi Terry, There are absolutely NO LONG TERM STUDIES regarding vaccines, adverse reactions, autoimmune connection, IDD (though the CDC last year released 2 news releases on Reuters connecting IDD with 2 different vaccines...I can't find the articles in my files though There is also another fact. Vaccines do not give one a live time immunity so adults in their 30s with young children can be prone to getting the diseases when their children are vaccinated with vaccines that carry the live virus's. If you would like Terry, when I send out the url's on vaccines I can include you in it. I am trying to send the ones that have lots of links with them and every one can form their own opinions on this. I have been researching it almost 2 years now and it scares the devil out of me...but since I have learned from personal experience NOT to trust *MY* drs. word on information...why on earth would I trust a childs dr.? There is just something very funny in all of this. Drs. receive $100 per child who is up to date on vaccines by age 2...school districts receive $100 per child who is up to date on vaccines by age 6. Current federal laws MANDATE our children must be vaccinated BUT you can't sue the dr./nurse who vaccinates them nor can you sue the drug mfg. who makes them....as laws stand today...you have VAERS on a federally level (good luck with the red tape and bureaucracy) and on a state level...our state representatives are the only ones that can be held accountable for adverse reactions. Even though federal law mandates the vaccines each state government sets the requirements, that is why they are the first in the accountability line. And they can't go back on the federal govt. When we were children we went to the drs. when we were sick, when my daughter (age 30) was little she went for a 6 week check up, a 6 month checkup and a yearly...NOW we have *well baby* visits beginning at ONE WEEK .... what are there now, about 9 visits that first year? I really don't know...but I do know that they begin getting these vaccines before they leave the hospitals...before their immune systems have had a chance to develop...who is making out here? My sons Bio and Chemistry professors have both said that by vaccinating beginning at such a young age it changes the DNA of their immune systems. I don't know if this is true...but if it is, does this mean 50 or 100 years from now no one will have a working immune system because of government mandated vaccines? Who is making the money off of this? One more thing...how many times have EACH AND EVERYONE of us with GD been lied to over the years, symptoms that are NOT related to GD, must be stress, anxiety, in your head...here take a prozac...weight gain, not related to GD, you just aren't exercising...sore muscles, can't be happening, your not hyper anymore...continued hair loss...change your shampoo....I could go on and on and on and so could each and everyone of you. Knowing and learning what we have and continue to do here...why should that not be the case regarding vaccines and our children and safety? None of the professionals want to say much or point fingers because then they are ALL responsible...so parents are out there, researching and learning and discussing adverse reactions and deaths with vaccines, just the way we do here with GD. Think about it. Guest guest
What studies have been done, if any, of 2nd & 3rd generation after we/our children were vaccinated? I have heard some rumblings about how if you *don't* vaccinate the child of a vaccinated adult, and that child gets the particular disease, it can be a much, much worse outcome. Guest guest
Hi Jody- The vaccines are OK even when something mutates. As long as they promote the immune response that recognizes an invading antigen (protein), they're alright. There are some mutations that occur in areas that would effect the immune response of the person infected. These may change the effectiveness of the vaccine. However, if the mutation occurs in an area that codes for virulence only, then an unvaccinated person is at risk while a vaccinated person would not because the mutation occurred in an area that that the infected person's immune system doesn't recognize. There are an awful lot of factors at work here. Guest guest
Hi Terry- I have several recent studies of the the Varicella vaccine that show it is pretty safe. That doesn't mean that I think it's OK though since chicken pox doesn't usually cause serious disease. I've also heard all the negative aspects of this vaccination but I don't have any studies that will bear this out and I hunt for them. I don't know about everyone else but I find this so depressing. How in the world could they ever prove a link between autoimmune disease (which is so nebulous) and something that happened 5 to 40 years ago? How could they ever disprove it? So we'll probably still be wondering 100 years from now. So I choose to go by studies (many of which are government sponsered) and incorporate my instincts into this matter. How serious is the disease? Does it make sense to do it? How prevalent is the disease worldwide? Indeed! My first child (now 29) had repeated ear infections, repeated antibiotics and is now allergic to the antibiotics. My 2nd & 3rd (19/17) have never had antibiotics, just a few ear infections (which healed fine without the antibiotics, just a baby asprin when needed). What scares me is that if I had been allergic to antibiotics I'd be dead now. So I worry for my daughter! her doc also tried to give flouride supplements, and when i asked why, when the water is already full of the stuff, got all paternalistic and condescending. i never gave them and now the docs don't push that stuff any more. I am really, really tired and may not be making much sense so I'll stop before I get into a rant! Terry
Guest guest
Hi Group, Don't know a thing about these vaccines and don't really have an opinion, but I do want to add this tidbit/factoid... My hubby is going back to college this fall and one of the requirements for enrollment is that he has to show proof of MMR vaccination given AFTER 1970. Therefore he had to get re-vaccinated on Friday. Just FYI Doris
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the update. I laughed at your saying your baby is growing big, big. Your hunches regarding hypo may be right, with thyroid function and autoimmune function both declining at this stage in your pregnancy. Take care, Elaine
Guest guest
Good discussion indeed and excellent points made. I am almost 26 weeks and doing okay. I have been having some cramping and discomfort but unfortunately this is normal for me, I have a spastic uterus which makes me feel like I have labor like pains for months. Baby is growing big, big! I have been really exhausted and lethargic for two weeks so went for bloodwork yesterday and endo next week. I may be going hypo now. I noticed my eyes getting puffy again and my blood pressure is normal and no protein in my urine. My bet is on the thyroid now. We will see.... I. Guest guest
mary, the shots you mention are important with minimal side effects. The measles is very important because of the risk to a fetus when pregnant and many immigrants get this disease because of lack of immunization. I. Guest guest
Hi , Are you on thyroid hormone now? With the new studies, are they watching you close to make sure you don't go hypo? I have been reading and hearing it can also make the baby hypo and cause other problems. I'm glad your seeing the endo soon, is your ob/gyn watching the thyroid too? I could not imagine having the feelings of labor pains for weeks! How unfair...but in the end, with a healthy little one it does make it all worth while. When is your due date and do you know if this one is boy or girl yet? Take care, Jody _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Guest guest
Hi Darla, Thank you for sharing about your experience with your children. How is your oldest son doing with the faconi anemia? I know nothing about it but it doesn't sound good Is your son with the vaccine reactions doing okay now? Do you belong to the egroups vaccineinjuries ? In my novaccines group there are many many posts in the archives about how the youngest children have not received any vaccines and are the healthiest of all their kids...a lot less allergies even. Do you have Graves? If so when were you diagnosed? Just jump in here with the rest of us! We are great people...just ask us Besides, we understand like no one else. Welcome to the group, Jody _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
Hi Jody, just catching up on my emails after a week and half. Been so busy with appts. and last days of school and (ah) opening of my pool. Let's see.... I am not on anything right now. My latest levels are FT4 1.4 (.8-1.8) which dropped a bit, and FT3 350 (240-420) which dropped from 400. The endo wants me back in three weeks again to see my levels. If I drop further she will put me on thyroid replacement. I am approaching the mid range now instead of upper range so this definitely explains my subtle hypo symptoms starting. I am so sensitive to drops in T3 especially. My ob has put all his trust in the endo but is educated enough to know that the Free levels must be in upper normal to even sligthly elevated ranges to be safe for the baby. So I feel confident right now that I am in very good hands. I am 27 weeks now and my official due date is Sept 20. But like I said before I have big, big babies and never went passed 38 weeks. Depending on the size I will be induced at 37 weeks. I am having a boy. I have four other children, 8 1/2, 6 1/2, 4 1/2 and 3. I am starting to get really excited. Regards always, I.
