Guest guest Posted April 5, 2001 Report Share Posted April 5, 2001 Hello Group, I was decompressed 4/2/01 approx. 1:30ish pm. It's amazing - I feel no pain! I can't believe it!!!!!! Can you say......aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh?????????? Here is a small recap below that I wrote to another list (I don't want my body screaming at me! ha): Well - besides the screws, and the stitches they have to use to keep you together - I highly recommend a little brain surgery! ha The only thing that is painfull is the recooperating neck (stiff, and swollen)... No more headaches, numbness, pain....it's UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!! My hands don't hurt (this is truly amazing - previously it felt like I was almost crippled in my hands - they hurt sooooo much.), I don't feel like I have reflux anymore (and my stomach muscles feel stronger), my head doesn't feel like it's going to " pop " and there is no 'non-stop headache' anymore, I no longer feel like I have an ice pick growing from between my eyebrows, my arms and legs feel stronger.... the list goes on (I'll leave out some of the more graphic parts - I'm sure we all know a little too well.....).... Even though I feel a little weak from the surgery (I guess because it was only three days ago) - my overall 'tone' feels better... My muscles don't " ache " like they used to..... The Dr's did note something " unusual " in my skull. They discribed it as looking almost like a " keel " on a boat....an indent in the lower rear portion of my skull denting in towards my brain - putting more pressure on my cerebellum than is normal. When The bone was removed from the " foramen magnum " (whole at the base of the skull) - otherwise known as a " decompressed " state - my cerebellum 'regressed' into a natural state within my skull..... The doctor was originally not too impressed with the size of the herniation that I had (and the severity of the symptoms that I discussed), but after in there - seeing for himself this " keel " type formation he was rather glad he had proceeded to decompress me. This " after in there " statement is one that is heard many times....because an MRI can't see " the real picture " . A picture truly is worth a thousand words! Besides the stitches/bruises.....I already feel better than new (but in about two weeks - everything should be pretty much resolved...)! Thanks to all for the well wishes, prayers, and thoughts.... They have helped to pull me back into reality....alot sooner! Thank you...... Hugs, N--->ACM 1 (with the keel - successfully decompressed 4/2/01 - Dr. Weingart, a little sore, mom to 10 years NS = heart, eye, bleeding, (gastro/growth - problems previous to decompression) ACM 1 successfully decompressed 4/13/00 - Dr. Carson - and LOVING LIFE, and Glenn 12 years ACM 1 'minimal herniation' waiting for evaluation 4/30/01 - w/ Dr. Carson....in NJ.... Ahhhhhh there's no place like home! ps. Kathleen - I couldn't help myself...I had to break out... Two days in a hospital is two days too many! ha If I had stayed longer I would have gotten into trouble - as it was the nurses already had me messing with the neuro interns... Told them I left... While they were looking right at me.... Hey - it's not my fault they were looking for the tell-tale pony tail craniotomy look! ha So - if I looked that good.....what choice did they have, but to release me?
