Dear Shig-

Are they certain that it cannot be removed? In general peritoneal

metastasis is considered inoperable. However, there are a few

surgeons who do attempt to treat these by removing all visible

disease and then treating with heated chemotherapeutic drugs placed

directly in the abdomen.

The most well known is Dr. Sugarbaker in Washington D.C. You may

want to search for some recent discussion about this on these boards.

He did surgery Feb '03 to treat my peritoneal metastatic lesions from

rectal carcinoma. He recommended I be put on oxaliplatin while

getting in shape for surgery. At surgery, after 6 treatments with

oxaliplatin, the previous numerous peritoneal nodules had become too

small to see.

I had recurrance in lymph nodes, and liver afterwards, but so far

not in my peritoneum. Now that I am back on oxaliplatin my lymph

nodes and liver nodules have shrunk markedly and I feel well 1 yr

after the diagnosis of my peritoneal metastasis.

Hi, Kris!

My oncologist told me yesterday that the cancer on

peritoneum could not be removed and that chemotherapy

in my case would work only for a short period of time.

I will talk to my oncologist based on your suggestions.

In October I will have a blood test and CT scanning to

see how my cancer on peritoneum is growing.

Thank you very much for your advice.

Have a nice weekend!
