I had mine open and to tell you the truth I don't remember the pain much. I

did have some right after the surgery but while I was in the hospital I had

very little pain. I had my surgery on a Weds at 9:30am and was home late

afternoon on Saturday. I was completely off pain meds on Tuesday. My doctor

started it Lap and because my liver was so large had to do it open because he

couldn't see past it. so I have three small holes and the open scar. AT least

you will only have the open scar.

Rob you crack me up..... Rob no like pain. hehehe. I had lap RNY, but a

friend of mine, 2 actually, had open. It took them a bit longer to be up

and about than it did me. But they did well, and neither were on pain meds

that long. Your pain will be controlled, don't stress over it.

Hugs,

Mine was open. Both of 'em. The result was worth the cut. My husband's scar

is almost undetectable. I'm a girl, so mine shows.

Hi Rob. Welcome to our group. So glad to have you with us. Your fears are

normal. Especially for the first surgery. My surgeon prefers doing open

procedures as well. You may be a little overwhelmed by pain when you first wake

up or you may wake up and think hey, no big deal. Then when you try to move,

you'll change your mind. It's very important that you let the nurses know what

your pain level is, so they can get you the proper meds to help you. Try and

keep a positive attitude in the hospital that this pain during your recovery is

a necessary means to an end result of a thinner, healthier you. I have some

info. that I will send you privately as well. Take care.

Thanks for all of the information. I appreciate it. I let work know

today what the situation is and when and to my suprise they were

supportive. Told my mom today to, and she was supportive. I am

thinking what they heck is going on. My wife is concerned as she is

an RN at the hospital the surgery is being completed at and has seen

a couple go wrong. No deaths just some complications. SHe is just

worried about me. For some personal information I am 23 way 310. and

am 5'11. I am just a big guy and have always been. I just wonder what

it will feel like a hundred pounds lighter or even fifty. I am really

looking forward to the day it happens it just the idea of having a 4

inch cut down the middle of my gut that bothers me. Thanks again for

the help.
