Guest guest
My memory recollects that low carbing, exercising and diet was the way deal with Type 2. Have not kept up with the current thinking on this subject and would like to hear more. In finality, and darn this was long, please provide your best advice. I'll stay tuned to the list and try to pick up the lines of conversation and absorb; hopefully better than four years ago. Interesting letter ;-) I eat fairly low carb. Started out with a 7.3 A1c, got to 6.2 and should be in the 5's next time ;-) Today's 2 week meter average is 99. That's from each morning, 2 hours after each meal and other times when I am curious. Can I have your body since you are not using it? I'd love to be able to walk and hike and do exercises!!! Now that you have seen the light that ignoring diabetes won't make it go away and you have realized you are not invincible, welcome back to the world of diabetics trying to do their darndest, even if it isn't anywhere near perfect ;-) I can only use myself as an example. I can't exercise because my body is a dud. Therefore, I really like low carbing to keep the old bg numbers down. I already take a handful of meds for the MG and lupus, so I sure don't want to add diabetes meds to the mix. There are some folks here way better at talking low carb than me. I will leave that to them for now. I am a one finger typist!! ;-) Glad you are back! (wsm311@...) Guest guest
I have to admit, that three years ago, I believe I had an air of confidence that I could control the bg and never get to this point. Be it a false sense of security or whatever, I guess I ran out of time. Realistically, I don't know, think, or even want to guess that I can get off the glucophage. Steve, Welcome back to the list... I know the feeling of confidence you're talking about. Three years ago I had no problem maintaining low blood sugar levels with the help of Glucophage and a fairly high level of carbs -- I didn't realize I was eating too many, as I was following the diet prescribed for me by the dietitian. However, I obviously was, as it caught up with me. Good that you're catching it now, as mine -- 3 mos. ago -- had gotten up in a range of 350 to 500, and even once, going up to over 600. Three months of low carbing has done wonders....I'm off the meds, and my blood sugar is almost where I want it to be. In fact, sometimes it is just where I want it to be, and it keeps dropping. I do walk a little over an hour a day... 45 minutes in the morning and about 20 minutes in the afternoon. I also take 600 mg. of sustained release alpha lipoic acid. I plan to do this for the rest of my life. Sandy H.
