Guest guest
Hi. I took Corderone/Amiodorone for over two years. I had a slight hand tremor at 400mg's a day and went down to 200mg's a day. It worked fine but then it started to effect my thyroid so I stopped...my thyroid levels normalized and I switched to another antiarrhythmic drug called Sotalol. It didn't work at all and made me feel terrible. I'm now back on Amiodorone since December, 400mg's a day, and I waiting to see how it will work this time around. I will get my thyroid tested along with other tests that have to be done with this drug such as chest x-rays. There are other people here that have had really bad times with the drug and others who haven't. I wouldn't be afraid of it if you are going to be monitored with the appropriate tests by your doctor. If you're not going to be monitored then find another doctor. P..Michigan ********************************************************************* > Hi, I'm new to this site. Guest guest
--- I took amiodarone for 6 weeks and then heard about the side effects. I got plenty scared and They switched me to Toprol XL, after I went for a second opinion to another cardio. There are SO many meds out there to try, amiodarone is one of the most toxic I've been told. They should be monitoring you very carefully if you take it.I would always suggest a second opinion if you have any doubts. I agree with you about your concerns with the Amiodarone, but wonder about your doctor and his as it were bag of tricks? There are quite a few other drugs between digoxin and amiodarone. I was also faced with the same choice, but had several other drugs in between. I opted for Tikosyn and the three day stay in the hospital to start the drug. Been on it for over two years with excellent results, having never gone out of NSR and no side effects that I am able to tell. I am still quite leery about the Ablation route as I ran into two persons who had it during my pondering time and they both ended up worse for the wear as it were. One ended up being pacer dependent and the other suffers from the pulmonary vien stenosis that seems to be reported here. An ablation IMHO should only be contemplated if you nowingly have a surgeon who has done many with excelent results. Ant it would seem that the place for this is the Cleveland Clinic. While hvaeing grown up in Cleveland it is not now realistic for me to go there for the operation, so Tikosyn will have to do. I ran a continious HR of well over 220, and believe you me I am still at a loss as to how I functioned with it at all. Good luck in the choice you have in options, but it would seem that your doctor is seemingly giving you the blue light special. Ed
