Guest guest
Jane, I know pred has a lot of nasty side-effects; but, somewhere in here, I'd be asking myself if the side-effects are worse than being without it. I'm sorry you're hurting, hon. Hugs. Owens ========== I've been reducing my prednisone which I've been on for almost 3 months now. I am definitely hurting more without it. My knees are killing me. I have 2 short flights of stairs coming into the condo and next week I'll have fell steps to master. I found out that the knees just aren't up to par when I'm trying to do stairs. Also my back is hurting worse probably from reducing the prednisone. I definitely want to get off pred but I need something to replace it. I had more vertigo today to go with the back and knee pains. It's been raining off and on all day, somethings very hard and all the dampness isn't helping. Jane
Guest guest
I'm glad Denny's feeling better. Now, you get well, too! Hugs. Owens ==== He's better. In fact after only three doses of the Procrit you can see the improvement in his energy level! Now I have whatever bug he had--feel more like crap than usual--kind of flu-ish. Shivering, joint pain, nausea, etc. I was going to go to Al-Anon(this involves a part of the problem my brother and s-i-l are having, unfortunately not all of it) with my Mom and Dad this evening, but I can't even eat or drink anything so I can't go spread this around. Today I'm just in bed. I'm hoping to soon take a shower, but the energy level isn't that good. Kathy

Guest guest
It's now Sept. 14. I'm still having lots of problems with my knees. Every place we have stayed has had steps to contend with. Where we are now (in the Shenandoah Valley, VA) is a beautiful condo but has 10 steps coming up to it. To do laundry, there are 18 steps...needless to say, I talked Jim into doing that. I've been cutting down on my prednisone doses ever since I left FL 4 weeks ago. Something is going on in my body that is benefiting by the use of it and if the pain level doesn't go down in the next day or two I'm going to call my docs and find out if I should go back up on it. I have exhausted my supply of Actiq which I have now discovered is really a good immediate pain reliever because it gets into my system immediately. If I can find a Walgreen's around here, I can get another prescription that I have filled...at least that's what the pharmacist in FL said...I can fill a FL Rx in any other state at a Walgreen's because they can call my records up on the computer and they can double check that I have been taking the same meds in the past. If that doesn't work though, I don't know what I'll do other than head home earlier. I'm way behind on emails...haven't read any in a week so I have 231 backlogged. If there is something that has happened that is monumental that I should know about, please fill me in. I've missed you guys but this past week when I spent 5 days in Michigan visiting my old stomping grounds where we lived the first 20 years of our marriage, I had a wonderful time although my hostess ordered me to bed 2 afternoons because I was in so much pain. She gave a party and there were 19 of our old friends who came...some of them I had not seen in at least 10 years, others I saw 5 years ago when I was there. It was interesting that there are now 5 who have had multiple by pass surgeries in the past few years including one of my really, really good friend's who just coincidentally went in last Monday for knee replacement. It was sort of like going to a high school class reunion...some had aged unbelievably and others looked just the same as always. They gave me a early 60th birthday party...I'm the baby of the group so they were all happy to see me passing this milestone. Guest guest
Jane, My docs have told me not to cut my pred when there's anything stressful going on - like traveling. If we go on a trip, or I get a sinus infection or something, I just wait until things are back to normal to continue tapering off the pred. Even doing this, I'm having a lot of muscle/joint pain & other symptoms of steroid withdrawal. Take care of yourself & have fun. -- Re: I'm back It's now Sept. 14. Guest guest
Sounds like you're having a fabulous time!! Keep Jim doing the laundry... who picked out where you were staying??? Go back up on your pred if you were just tapering off but always check with your doc The swelling form the walking and stairs and the basic excitement is probably responding to the prednisone and it's sure to help with that. This was not a good time to try to taper off. Have fun!! Re: I'm back Sounds like the healing process.Kathy> I've got good range of motion in my knees. It's not the flexing that is the > problem. Guest guest
My rheumy figured out a 6 week schedule for the reduction of the dose of prednisone. I'm still thinking I need to stabilize for a week or two before I reduce further. Guess that is a question that I should ask the doc. Guest guest
Jim picked the locale in NC in the mountains and this week in the Shenandoah Valley. Last week when we were in Michigan staying with our best friends was at my insistence. We leave Friday morning for my Mom's house. I just hope we don't run into too much heavy rain and trees being down. We are then heading back to Atlanta on Tuesday or Wednesday to 's house and will have birthday cake for McKaila, Jake and me. I am right now on an every other day dosage of prednisone before I reduce the dosage again. I think I will just take the same dosage EVERY day for a couple of weeks and see if things get better. Guest guest
I knew that there would be stairs at my friend's house in Michigan (she has no main floor bedrooms) and the place where we are now said there is no provision for moving people from one condo to another. Even with the main floor condos here, nearly all have steps getting up to them...it's ski country so I guess they figure anyone who would go to a ski resort should have good legs. They forget all the other activities that the resort revolves around...golf, tennis, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, hiking, etc. Next place we book though will be at the beach or at a place with elevators. Guest guest
Yes, it is. We arrived back in Florida last night about 6:30 and unloaded all the luggage and other things to the entry and kitchen. I was so tired that I went straight to bed. My husband was stewing because he had no ice cubes...our neighbor came to hook up the ice maker while we were gone but since the water was turned off, he couldn't check for leaks. After turning the water on, there was still no water going through the lines. I suspected that it was there turned off under the sink (which it was). This morning Jim was still beefing about it but wasn't about to get down and see if he could open the valve under there. Finally I got a little stool to sit own and found the valve but because my hands are so bad, I couldn't open it. I called and asked Jim to bring me a pair of pliers but of course he had to complain that there was something laying on top of the tool box that hadn't been put away. Finally I told him to bring me the tool box and I would find the pliers. I found them with little trouble and proceeded to open the valve but of course there was a leak. I simply asked Jim to call the neighbor who we paid to hook up the icemaker. He got indignant and said he had to do everything...I felt like choking him. When I finally was able to get up from the stool (with difficulty of course), I discovered that Jim was playing cards on the computer...this made me even madder. I had been unpacking and putting things away all morning and he had and hasn't yet unpacked anything. Is it any wonder that I lose my cool with him???? UGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!
