Guest guest
Ann, Most of the doctors working in ALS clinics are familiar with PLS. They will prescribe different things for you to do: Stretching exercises, strength building exercises, what assistive devices you may need, etc. You may ask them any questions you have and someone will get you an answer if it can be found. The ALS clinics are good ones to visit, or so I've heard. I only see one neurologist in Indianapolis IN, about 77 miles south of Logansport IN where I live. As far as doctors, or neurologists, go in NY, I have no idea. I do know Beth Israel Hospital has a center for PLS, or at least a specialist in that area. That is how I found this group in Sept of 99. They have a service like " Call a Nurse, " only it involves nurses and doctors. At that time, they had no idea what PLS was and referred me to this site for help. I found it and have made many email friends here. I have also learned a lot. This group is very supportive. Occasionally someone will bring up a subject that no one has mentioned before and many of respond stating we have experienced the same thing or something like it. This begins a dialogue that becomes very informative and helps us understand ourselves and our " crappy " disease better. Your question's answer is " I don't know. " Ask the doctors whom you see at the clinic. They will either refer you or let you know what you are asking. Sometimes, doctors just take for granted that we know what they do or we just wouldn't understand. Neither is true. We want to know and I have found that if I ask my neurologist a direct question, he will give me an answer. Sometimes I don't like it, but he does give me an answer. So......ask. You will get what you need. Welcome to the group and feel free to ask us anything. Someone will give you an answer, usually more definite than this one. Yeast grows in cycles. Not unlike treating an animal for parasites..they do a dose..then wait a while and do another dose to kill the newly hatched bugs etc. It could be that at 6 weeks a new round of yeast are dying and giving off toxins. Each flare should be less intense and shorter in duration. The flare is caused by die off. Try this for helpful info: http://www.eczema-usa.com/articles_details.asp?Article_ID=12 Scroll down and it will tell about die off and what you can do to help it such as using probiotics to reseed with the good bacteria etc. Lynn
