Jan,

I'm sorry to hear that. Do you drink water a lot? When I was told to lose

weight, I drank a TON of water, limited my caffeine intake, cut out Coke,

and all junk food, as well as increased my activity level (basically just

walked, walked, walked). One thing I believe, is that if he see's a loss in

weight, whether a few pounds or 20, he'll still go on w/surgery. Don't

panic yet, just make a few more adjustments. Also, quitting smoking could

make anyone gain a few pounds, ever try sucking a straw? Works for some,

unfortunately, not for me either, but it's worth a shot.

E-mail me if you need to vent!

Hang in there!

Dawn

Re: One year anniversary

Dear Dawn:

That is wonderful news. What a great anniversary :). I left Dr. Randall's

by 4:15 PM so I did not get to see you. I did not have a great visit. I

gained 8 pounds and Dr. Randall says he will cancel my surgery if I do not

lose 20 pounds by my October appt. I have not been careful about what I

have

been eating but I have quit smoking, cut my caffeine consumption in half and

am trying to eat regular meals all since my first appoint with him on 6/15.

He said none of those things made up for having gained weight. He was also

upset that I hadn't had my sleep study done yet. I told him that the Dr.'s

office had rescheduled my appt twice, it is now in Sept!! I got mad and

tried to call them but could not get through.

I was in tears by the time I hit the parking lot and sat in my van for 20

minutes trying to control a panic attack. (I have panic disorder -- we have

something in common Chey.) Came home and took it out on my family.

Hi Alice,

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I spoke to this morning and am

feeling much better. I have lost weight many times and know that I can do it

again. So far so good today.

I know what I have to do and if I can keep a handle on the depression and

panic I will succeed.

Thanks again!

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for the input. Dr. Randall just did not seem to think that quitting

smoking had anything to do with it. I almost went out at midnight last night

to buy a pack of cigs but knew my girls would be heartbroken. I do drink

alot of water but have not been on the treadmill for the last two months so I

am going to put away the stacks of clothes on it (OMG was huggy right??? LOL)

and just do it!!!!

Jan,

I just read this message. I feel for you. I gained 15 pounds between my

first appointment and surgery and had fears that my surgeon would also

cancel, but luckily he did not say a word. I wish I could give some words of

advice, but I found weight loss very difficult before surgery also. I

suggest trying Weight Watchers and taking it slow and methodically. Some

will Suggest Carnation Instant Breakfast. That may work also, but liquid

diets sometimes work the opposite way for me and I end up eating more. Only

you will know yourself. One pound, one week at a time. We will all support

you. Remember your doctor is only doing this for your health. He is worried

about your liver. I doubt he will hold you to the 20 pound loss, but the 8

pounds probably has to come off. He is just trying to scare you.
