Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am exhausted from a whirlwind trip from North Carolina to Iowa and back all in one day, but wanted to post an update about . She got to see Dr. Ponseti today for a checkup at 12 months old, and we are delighted with the report.. He is satisfied with her foot and no longer " mistrusts " it. He said everything is in the position it should be in, and likes the way her foot easily swings out. It straightens out nicely when she walks (with support). She's not too overcorrected or undercorrected, and the length of her heel cord is OK. She needs to keep wearing the brace the way she has been (14 hours or so a day, during night and naps). He thinks her chances for needing a tendon transfer when she's older now are " slim " ! Her calf is about 1 - 1 1/2 cm smaller in circumference, which he said is not out of the ordinary. While we were there, we got a new pair of shoes two sizes larger (3N) to put on the bar when she grows out of what she has. (It's the new kind, with the floating tongue.) She doesn't need to be seen again for 8 months. As a reminder and to those of you who don't know.. switched to the Ponseti method at 3 months of age when she was heading toward surgery. After a few of Dr. Ponseti's casts, her foot was fixed. Dr. P looked great.. as always wonderful to spend time with him. He mentioned that there's is a family from Venezuela in Iowa City now for treatment. M: I didn't get in touch with you because of my short turnaraound time in Iowa. It was definitely my quickest trip! So nice to see Iowa in summer instead.. the lush green fields and blue skies were a big change from my trips last winter. Sorry we couldn't get together. Hope everyone is well. and (the new 1-year-old, who made her presence known on the airplanes this time)
