Guest guest
Hey Dawn, I'm really sorry to hear about your problem. I hope they find the cause of it real soon. I've liked talking to you and it distresses me to hear you're doing poorly. By the way, I don't like black coffee either but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Hang in there ok? Guest guest
Dawn, I had a CAT scan done when I was the hospital with my infection. They wanted to make sure that it was just my wound and nothing else. The drink that they give you is not that bad. Sort of taste like really dead sprite. What they did with mine though was mix it in four glasses with water. I had to drink a glass every half hour. Lea
Guest guest
thanks Lea, I have to drink one 12 hours before, and the other 2 hours before, followed by 14 oz. of water, clear liquids each time, but NO COFFEE, unless black! I'm soooo bummed, and all the clear stuff I can drink, NOTHING has caffeine in it! They are a bit worried about infection somewhere as I have a fever, but hopefully if so, the blood work will show what type so they can treat that while working on the pain problem Dawn Re: Update on belly Dawn, I had a CAT scan done when I was the hospital with my infection. Guest guest
Dawn I hope you have a better day today. I don't see why they can't get you in today for the cat scan. Please let me know how you make out. Who is the doctor covering for dr Randall. Do you know his or her name? Jo Update on belly Hi everyone, Well, after a very long day, I still don't know about my belly. I went tomy primary Dr. today, as soon as he pushed the area in my belly that kills,I flipped, lost my mind in tears, and he said "I want you to see a surgeon, and TODAY". My surgeon Dr. Randall is on vacation until Monday, nobody hasheard of his covering Dr., so I went with a local surgeon referred to mefrom my Dr. He sent me for an Ultrasound of the abdomen, they checked mygallbladder, spleen, kidneys, and liver, all of which look GOOD! He thensent me for blood work, no results on that yet obviously, but he's stillconcerned as to what is causing so much pain. He did find a have a small"button sized" hernia in my incision line, but this isn't causing pain atall, said not to worry at this point in time. I am now scheduled for a CATscan of the abdomen, but not until SEPTEMBER 20th!! The surgeons officewill be called by me FIRST thing tmrw to see if they can push this up, as Ihave no control over that. There is NO WAY I can wait that long. Thesurgeon said he wants to be sure my stoma from the RNY is in tact, said mystaples looked ok from what he saw on the ultrasound, but the CAT scan wouldconfirm all that. I guess the gallbladder is close to the duodenum (sp?),which might be inflamed and/or infected as I have a fever (unknown to me tiltoday), so until then, he prescribed Prilosec of which I need to take tohelp control any inflammation/reduce acid, etc...What a shitty day, but glad it's over, and nothing serious at this point. Will keep you posted on tmrw's phone call about the CAT scan! BTW: I haveto drink 2 little "shots" of this stuff before my CT scan, has anyone everdone that? They said it's an iodine type of thing with no sugar, but wantto be 100% sure as I'm going to be one hell of a bitch without anything toeat/drink before the test, including coffee, unless I want it BLACK and nosweetener...I'd rather be a bitch, than drink it black! Guest guest
Dawn, This annoys me no end. There is such a thing as an Emergency CAT Scan. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr You might have to wait a bit if you are squeezed in, but it would be worth that to get it down SOON. I don't know what the stuff is that you will be drinking. I know with MRIs, you can have a plain MRI or an MRI with gadolinium, but that is injected. Good luck. Be the squeeky wheel and keep on pushing to get the test moved up. Did the surgeon give you anything for the pain? I know about the no food/meds things. That is no fun. Had to do that yesterday. I have managed to wean myself off of caffeine in my coffee as of a couple of months now. I miss the caffeine because decaf does not wake you up in the morning. Good luck and please keep us posted. Guest guest
Dear Dawn, I reread my email when it appeared. I really hope you didn't think I was angry with you when I spoke about the Emergency CAT Scan. I was really annoyed at the doctor's office. I worked for years as a Medical Secretary. I don't pretend to know everything, but I do know that Emergency tests like this do come up, and it just annoyed me that after all the pain you have been in for a time now that you were not squeezed into the system some how. You were bitching (excuse me) at the nothing in the coffee bit. I am just bitching at the medical system and how WE have to push to some times get things moving for US. I will step down off of my soap box now and go quietly into my little corner. I'm thinking of you and want all this done for you yesterday. Good luck. Keep up posted as you have been. Guest guest
Rayna, Did you have to have an ultrasound to prove it? I had one, and it appeared to be ok, still awaiting my blood work results. Guest guest
Hi Sally, I'd NEVER be mad at you, heck knows, I don't even know what you're talking about?!? They cannot move up the CT scan, they're supposably booked solid. Until then, I'm taking Prilosec, have to watch my temp, no lifting, and call the Dr. if pain gets worse/intolerable. I'll just have to wait it out at this point, and hope for the best. Thanks sweetie, Dawn Re: Update on belly Dear Dawn, I reread my email when it appeared. Guest guest
Dear Lyssa, Is it possible to send a card to and if so, do you know her address? I'm sure she would love to hear that many people are concerned about her. Thank you, Don
Guest guest
..Dear Dawn no. i didn't have to have an ultrasound. but it did show in the blood test. i never went home. they operated right away. I know people that went to emergency 3 times and gallbladder didn't show but make sure that you tell them that you were eating very few calories which definitely makes the gallbladder not function. please feel better. see you soon rayna
