Guest guest
I don't know about less people in meetings, but I would like tosay this: when that phrase " the ROOMS " is used in reference to XAmeeting places (no matter where they are held), it gives megoosebumps & indigestion. It's not only an insider " special secretmeaning " codeword, it's usually said with the reverence one wouldnormally use for a house of worship. Does anyone else find thatphrase a turnoff? ~Rita >Having been around the rooms since the 1991, I've >noticed thatthere seems to be less and less people >attending meetings. Guest guest
Hi Rita: It sort of imparts the feeling of the old Night Gallery series for me. In tonight's episode we will explore one man's decent into hell. In an episode we like to refer to as " The Rooms " Re: rooms are thinning out I don't know about less people in meetings, but I would like tosay this: when that phrase " the ROOMS " is used in reference to XAmeeting places (no matter where they are held), it gives megoosebumps & indigestion. (90 meetings in 90 days, etc.) A stagnant or declining US membership might even be hidden by the increasing tendency to cite world membership. From 1978-1988, as the treatment industry expanded, AA membership grew from 750,000 to 1.6 million. (Wm White Slaying the Dragon p. 278) I don't know whether that was a US or global figure. The latest claim I have seen is (I think) 2 million worldwide and 1.3 million in the US. Of course, I don't totally trust the AA figures. There is probably a lot of room for fudging. Guest guest
Lotsa goosebumps on " burning desire. " I really hated that one. Makes me have a burning desire to go back and choke a couple of the " Clancy " types I knew. >To: 12-step-freeegroups >Subject: Re: Re: rooms are thinning out >Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2000 09:13:47 -0500 > >Railroad Rita wrote: > > >...I would like tosay this: when that phrase " the ROOMS " is used in >reference to XAmeeting places (no matter where they are held), it gives >megoosebumps... >============================ >Three phrases, that if I never hear again will allow me to die a happy >man, are; > " The Rooms " , > " Does anyone have a burning desire? Guest guest
When I think of " the rooms " and things like " who you see here, what you hear here, let it stay here " , it all seems so damn obvious that this is crazy cult. I can't believe that that is even doubted. I hope that I never hear " burning desire " again as well. Sometimes people who have never been to AA will use the good old " one day at a time. " I shudder when I hear that too. It usually evokes a " burning desire " in me to throw up. Guest guest
Rita (just a test) because your next post says replies are jumbled up. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. OK, let's see what happens. And yes, your posts are coming garbled looking. At first I thought you were drunk (just kidding) jan Re: rooms are thinning out > I don't know about less people in meetings, but I would like tosay this: when that phrase " the ROOMS " is used in reference to XAmeeting places (no matter where they are held), it gives megoosebumps & indigestion.
