I've always called it " Zoning out " . I once drove home (10 miles) from work

after a 12 hour shift and didn't know where I was until I was pulling into

my driveway. That was the worst ever. It only happens when I'm extremely

fatigued or in too much pain. The only way to stop them (for ME) is to not

drive when I am in too much pain or am fatigued.

Later...

A heart at peace gives life to the body.

-- Blackouts?

Well im not sure what to call it, other then a " blackout " and I need to know

if this is normal and how to stop them.

Today, while driving to pick up my daughter, I drove all the way to the end

of the road with my mind in a " blackout " as I was thinking of something else

til I almost hit the car in front of me and " woke up " . Its like my mind

wasnt even focused that I was driving.

This isnt the first time I have had this happen but this scared me today and

I need to know if this is normal and what to do?

thank you

Donna .

I have found that I tend to lose all concentration on driving if I am

trying to drive and do anything else. I used to be able to multi-task

but now when I am driving I really have to concentrate ON DRIVING. I

can not carry on a conversation, sing along with the radio, etc. or I

will do stupid stuff like go through a stop sign, red light etc. My

mind just can't seem to process doing two things at once anymore.

Were you extrememly tired? Were you hurting? Have you had alot of " fibro fog " ?

I don't know that this is fibro related, but I know that I have a hard time

concentrating sometimes if someone else is in the car and I am talking or

something. Just like someone else wrote, I don't multi task well. Please be

careful.

I noticed this happening to me not long after I was diagnosed with

FM, and it really scared me. I almost drove through a red light in

a busy intersection. Also had trouble changing lanes. I finally

gave up driving altogether except for a few miles right around the

town which is near our home. I wouldn't dare get on an expressway.

I have directional disorientation....get my right and left mixed

up. And now with vertigo and dizziness and nausea, I figure I would

be a hazard to myself and others. Night driving is bad because of

glare and double vision. I hate it because it puts even more

limitations on my life, but better safe than sorry. I will only

drive on a day when my head is totally clear.

Everybody please be careful!!

Hugs,

Carley

I scared the heck out of my brother (more than once I might add), but before

I was diagnosed with fibro I left my doctor's office I sat in the parking

lot and cried because I couldn't figure out how to get from that parking lot

to my brother's house and I had driven it many times. That was pretty

scary.
