, Chelsea was actually just diagnosed with apnea, although it has been

suspected by therapists fora long time. She had a sleep study done at the

sleep lab at our local hospital. The poor thing had to be all wired up to

monitors all night; EEG, pulsox, and respiration monitors around her nose and

chest. We just got to see the pulmonologist on the 6th and he says she has 2

kinds of apnea. She has obstructive apnea, something blocking her airway

during sleep. We have to go see an ENT to look at her tonsils and adenoids

and to reccomend removal or not. The pulmonologist did say her slightly

enlarged tonsils could be holding her airway somewhat open at night. She also

had episodes of periodic breathing, which is her brain not telling her to

breathe at the right time. She'll have to have another MRI to see if a change

in her brain is causing this (her last MRI, 2yrs ago, was normal). He also

wants an EKG as this kind of apnea can cause a thickening in one of the walls

of the heart. She may need a biPAP, but for now does well with just O2 during

sleep. It seems kind of profound, but she has been doing well lately and

staying healthy. Please ask any questions, I'd be glad to help!
