Guest guest
Hi Sue You're right!! Thats a good exchange. Today I had crustless quiche for breakfast (5.8 carbs) and a sort of chef salad for lunch and I happened to glance at the croutons I'd taken out for my husband--you know those little things are 1 carb per teensy tiny crouton? I knew they had carbs but din't think they had 1 whole carb--and I have to admit I have cheated now and then and stuck a crouton (or 2) in my salad--well, I won't anymore. I didn't today because I'd already looked at the content but also because we're doing this challenge thing. I plan to have a grilled salmon steak for dinner with a salad (and no croutons) and cheesecake for dinner. Bev 180/174/

Guest guest
I have noticed alot of the cf kids seem have sinus problems. Is this a common cf thing or is list just a fluke? Funnily enough Eilish is the only one in this house that doesnt have any sinus problems. And if it is a sinus problem do they all eventually have sinus problems? Just curious. > Hi Michele > We also do a hypertonic nasal wash. We did find that it gets farther into the sinuses if leans her head backwards over the bed and drip it in. Rather than leaning forward and trying to squirt it in. She has cronic sinus , recurring sinus infections. We nasal endoscopies about every 2-3 months. > We also use Rhinocort AQ and Atrovent nose spray. > Dana > > >
Guest guest
Hi Maggie; Have you tried getting seen by the following Clinic in New Orleans: Ochsner Clinic Foundation, Section on Gastroenterology & Hepatology 1514 Jefferson Highway New Orleans, LA 70121 1- 1- http://www.ochsner.org/gastroenterology/ Your experience reminds me of when my son was diagnosed ... just as he was waking up from the ERCP the internist said to him ... " Congratulations you have PSC! We'll be writing a paper on you; and now let's talk about bile-duct cancer. " ... pretty heavy material for an 18 year-old to grasp! Best regards, and good luck in finding a more compassionate hepatologist. Dave http://home.insightbb.com/~rhodesdavid/
Guest guest
Maggie, From the medical standpoint your doctor may actually not be too bad. Most of the things he told you were within the range of current medical opinion about this disease. For instance some doctors do chose not to test for cholangiocarcinoma because it is hard to do anything about unless you find it very early and there are so many false positives with this disease that they think it isn't worth the stress it causes the patient if there is a false positive. Every 6 months is quite reasonable for blood tests if the patient is stable... All that said it does sound like there he may have a problem with tact and sympathy when dealing with patients, and dumbs down his answers (like telling you that they'll put on the list once he turns yellow) rather than explaining things in detail. There also may be a poor fit between you and the doctor philosophy of how aggresive a course of treatment to pursue. He doesn't seem to be very agressive about pursuing options, which might fit some patients attitude, but it doesn't look like it fits yours very well. It is true that the options for treatment of PSC are somewhat limited, but there are some options. To my mind, the best doctor is one who explains clearly what the challenges are and what treatment options are available to meet those challenges, and who then allows the patient to participate in working out a treatment plan that is acceptable to both. So overall, I would agree that it might be best to at least get a second opinion, and see if you can find a doctor who agrees better with your philosophy, who treats you more tactfully, and who allows you to participate in planning your treatment. athan
