How often should I be testing?

Hi Kathy,

I started out testing before breakfast and after dinner. I changed my

schedule to suit me. I only test twice a day most of the time. Some days I

don't

test at all. I only test fasting every week or so since it is always below

100. I do test if I have eaten a different food that is higher in carbs.

Some people test a lot more than I do. If I had to test more often I would

really be stressed and that would cause my numbers to be higher.

hugs

Eunice

I test 8 times a day. When I get up, before breakfast, 2 hours after

breakfast, before lunch, two hours after lunch, before dinner, two hours

after dinner, and before bed. Its the only way I can keep track of what

kinds of foods effect me and what I should avoid that makes my sugars go to

high. I also test if I dont feel right or am sick. Id ask the doc for more

testing strips and lances. In my openion testing once every other day isnt

enough, especially sinse your new and havent learned what things effect your

sugar. Everyone is different in what they can eat. Like I can eat potatoes

and be fine. But someone else can eat them and it shoots their blood sugar

up. I think testing is very important especially until you find what works

for you food wise. fran

Kathy,

I'm no pro or a doctor - but why test every other day? I would think

you would want to understand your diabetes, how food and etc. affects you -

maybe your 'pre-diabetic.'

I'm no Doctor!

Thanks for the input I, too, thought it was odd not to test more often. I'm

not pre-diabetic. At least that's not what the Doc said. I guess that was

years ago when I first had a very high blood glucose reading. I kept it down

for years and under control with diet and exercise. At one point about 11

years ago I was tested hypo glycemic.

Since I thought it odd not to test more often but I thought I'd ask you guys.

Thanks

Kathy
