Guest guest
The first person I met with Fibromyalgia was a nice young woman who was working summer school like I was. She told me about it over lunch and how she was lost in a parking lot and had to call her husband to help her. Her Fibro fog was apparently flaring up. This was the one memory I have of her stories. This was the summer I call “the summer from He-double Hockey Sticks.” I was having seizures something fierce and the doctor kept upping my meds (turns out the wrong ones) and they were making my seizures worse. It was the summer after my mom, who I took care of for 16 years, passed away. Anyway the other thing I remember about what she said about Fibro was that she quit eating sweets and was doing so much better. This brings me to carbs and the diet I’m trying to be on. I’ve been really good so far today. I’m trying so hard to stay away from carbs and what I do eat of them, to make sure they are whole grain. This is no easy task, I must say. Also, I’m trying to stay away from sweets. This is even harder for me and my 10 sweet teeth. Lunch/dinner will be in less than 1 hour and I’m dyin’ here. Mike will be home from his first day of work (he got up at 2am) and it will be his dinner and my lunch. I must eat only a quarter of a veggie sandwich. I’m wondering if, along with the stress of our lives and the world we live in, that our diet isn’t also to blame for Fibro. I’m hearing others talk about carbs and how so many of us have weight problems. I LOVE my carbs! I’m fat! I have Fibro (and reactive hypoglycemia). So, I know I have to change and am hoping that maybe, just maybe it will affect my Fibro positively. I’m only sitting here writing because I must stay away from food until…hey, he’s home. Well, I must go and eat my ¼ sandwich. I’m allowed to eat very small portions every 2 to 3 hours. Gotta go! Hugs, Jane ************************************** Seems this is a probablem that a lot of us have.. I am a carb queen.. Love my carbs.. Guest guest
Hi Jane, I'm in the process of modifying my diet as well. One thing you mentioned was making sure what you ate was whole grain, which is what I've been doing for a while now. I wanted to warn you though that a lot more people have an allergic reaction to even whole grains than we realize. Allergic reactions aren't necessarily what we'd expect them to be, and can cause general unwellness, increase inflammation, and create digestion and bowel problems. Now, I love my carbs and can't imagine getting rid of this type, but one of my doctors has been prodding me to go gluten-free with my diet to see if it helps. Admittedly, I haven't yet, lol! But I just wanted to point this out in case you weren't aware of it because it really is a bigger culprit than most of us realize. Here's just a quick overview of the grains: Grains with Gluten • Wheat, including varieties like spelt, kamut, farro and forms like durum, semolina, bulgur • Barley • Rye • Triticale (a rye/wheat hybrid) • Oats **(Oats are inherently gluten-free, but are frequently contaminated with wheat during growing or processing.) Gluten FREE grains • Amaranth • Buckwheat • Corn • Millet • Montina (Indian rice grass) • Quinoa • Rice • Sorghum • Teff • Wild Rice Gluten-free foods are more easily available these days, and there is a ton of information on the internet about this if you're interested in learning more. Good luck with your diet! Crystal
Guest guest
Thank you, Crystal, I sure hope I'm not allergic to wheat! I've given up so much I don't think I could take giving up yet another thing. It's hard enough to try and wean myself off chocolate and sugars (doing better with the sugar than I am chocolate and yes (LOL) I do know that there's sugar in chocolate. Hopefully I'll be seeing a doctor soon.as soon as I can here. I can't go on like this. Thank you again, I love this list, Jane **************************************************** Hi Jane, I'm in the process of modifying my diet as well.
