I went to see the diabetes nurse today for the first time and asked a few

questions we were talking about

When do you test the after eating BG? (postnandial?)

Two hours after your first bite.

Whats the difference between liver dumping and Dawn Phenomenon?

Nothing. They are the same.

What is Liver dumping?

When the liver/body thinks your in starvation mode, it throws out extra

sugar into the blood stream for energy/survival. Usually while you sleep,

you have a low sugar/hypoglycemic.

Tomorrow I start my classes. I will go for 4 Tuesdays, for 2.5 hrs each day.

She also said that if your eat the same thing on two different days, you can

get a different reading because the blood is always changing with sugar and

your food could have beeen different preceding the same food you were

testing with.

I hope this helped for some folks..

Have you checked the battery in your meter? What is the expiration date on

your strips?

It could have been a number of things. It may never happen again. From time

to time, I get readings that don't make sense. As long as the numbers are

okay after the next meal, I don't worry about it.

Did you wash your hands before taking your bs? Sometimes you can have something

on your hands that will give you a falsely high reading especially if you've

been handling fruits.

This morning I tested when I got up and bgs were 95. I ate my

breakfast, 1 slice whole wheat toast with 1T peanut butter and a 1/2

apple. Two hours later I felt like my blood sugar was low. So I took

it and it was 271. After putting my eyeballs back in my head and

picking my jaw up off the floor I took it again figuring the monitor

was wrong. I used the left hand this time and the reading was 186,

that is still pretty high for me, I have never had a reading over 140

after breakfast (been type 2 9 months). Okay I figured the meter must

have screwed up so just to prove that I took it again on the right

hand and again it read 271. I took it again on the left hand and it

was 185. Has anybody else had this happen and is there a reason? I

have heard the saying of " the left and right hand not working

together " but I thought that was a figure of speech. I have currently

stopped taking my meds with the doctors okay, i had been taking 2mg

of avandia once a day and my last A1C was 5.9 that was last week.

Also I know when I started taking the meds they said it would take

from 2-4 weeks for them to start working completely which was the

case. When you stop taking them how long does it take for their

affects to stop. I really want to do this controll thing with diet

and exercise, but things like this mornings bgs really confuse me!

I have had it happen that the readings were different in each hand, but

never to such a drastic bit...and it does surprise me that bgs for you would

be that high after two hours. Hmmm. Doesn't seem like enough to raise

it...but some folks do have trouble with whole wheat bread I hear...and it

depends on what brand too I think.
