Group and Sonj,

Phrenilin is the trade name for butalbital.

There are compounds (drugs combined) of it, and many forms.

You can get it with or without caffeine. (Esgic Plus)

You can get it with acetaminophen (tylenol) - Fioricet, or with aspirin

- Fiorinal

It contains a barbiturate, which is a mild sedative.

It is a class III med. and is non-opioid.

The doctors like to give it instead of opioid analgesics (pain pills)

because it is less addictive (but is considered addictive), and may help

the headaches.

I have heard many people say it helps their headaches, especially the

ones with caffiene in them. It would kinda be like an Excedrine with a

sedative.

I have tried it once or twice, when they have just tried anything to help

the headaches. It has not ever helped me with the pain, but makes you a

little sleepy so you can then sleep, and not feel pain for a while. When

I awake, the pain is still there. And, in some cases, this med. has made

my headaches worse.

If you try it, I hope it helps you. As I said some say it is the only

thing that can help them with a bad headache. My opinion is that it must

help tension type headaches. But, that is my opinion.

I feel like Walter Cronkite or something. he he

Well, thank you all for letting me do something with all this nursing

knowledge stuck in my head. I need an outlet to let it out at times. I

did that job for 12 years, and boy do you learn quickly about every kind

of drug. I was very good I'd say at memorizing the classes and the

mechanisms of action, possible side effects, to help the patients. I did

not want to be caught being asked that question that the patients asked

each shift, " What is this for? " and you stand there looking stupid like,

duh I don't know. Just take it cuz the Dr. said so. That is a no no.

I learned my stuff. I truly loved helping people get well. And, I still

try. Just don't get paid for it.

Loving you all and praying daily,

I have been especially praying for you all with the new surgeries and the

ones coming up,

So proud to hear about Josh getting a great outcome.

If you have any special requests, send them my way,

in Ala.
