The other day I had a high reading, caused by eating 2 slices of low carb bread. I got on the treadmill for 10 minutes. Tested 5 minutes later and my bg's had come down 72 points. hugs Eunice
Guest guest
As today was my first RN visit for the diabetes, she mentioned that if my BG was too high about an hour before I go to bed, To exercise about 15 minutes to help bring down the morning fasting BG. Roughly 15 minutes of exercise will lower 25 points of BG. She suggested the " Walking for Exercise " by Sansone. So I went out and bought the beginners 1 mile. I played it to check it out. I can handle that! She shows how to make it a bit more intense by just holding weights for the arms or squating a bit more for the leg workouts. I only paid $7 for the VHS. Guest guest
Jany i'm so glad you bought one of her " Walk Away the Pounds " video. When i saw the tital of the post i was going to open it, read it, and then recommend these videos! I started them last April when i was diagnosed. At the time i weighed 225 and my A1c was 11.3! I started with the 1 mile walk video and loved it, i moved up to the 2 mile after 2 weeks, and then moved up to 3 miles and by the beginning of August i got the 4 mile express. In September i was down to 181 pounds and an A1c of 5.7! I would see my BG level go down up to 100 points doing the 3 or 4 miles! I built muscles i never had (i LOVE those kick backs for my upper thighs)! When i found out i was pregnant 4 days after that September doctor appointment i still did the 2 or 3 mile, then gradualy went down to the 1 or 2 miles about 3-4 times a week. I lost about 10 pounds early on in my pregnancy (went down to 170) from morning sickness. With these videos, and still eating plenty, i'm currently at 181.4 pounds. So i'm only about ½ a pound higher than when i first found out i am pregnant! This ticks off many female members of my family that say they gained 50+ when pregnant! I was wearing size 12 stretch or 14 regular jeans in Sept, i'm now wearing size 10 maternity! But back to her videos, they are the only exercise program i've ever stuck with. I've tried , Tae-Bo, countless other tapes and routines and within days i would give it up. A year later i'm still in love with her tapes, i can actualy DO the exercise, she motivates and you just feel so empowered and high when you finish those miles! I clap and cheer at the end of each tape! In April she had new videos come out with Pilates and Yoga and another i can't remember (preggy brain), and i plan on adding those after Jack is born. I also got The Firm with the sculpting stick discoutned to $20 at Wal-Mart a few months ago to start as well....they are very energizing, it's a much tougher workout but i want to mix up the exercise. I know you'll love and stick with her tapes....they saved my life! Oh and on my other AOL name (MysticalRealms) i'm on two yahoo groups for leslie called: Sisiters in Sweat and WATP! It's a great place for fellow leslie followers to chat about our exercise and share our goals and achievements!

Guest guest
Ken Three days a week I go to Curves for women. I thought for the other days I would do the walking tape. I am a BIG girl, doing 270 on the scale. Since doing Curves, I can walk now in my backyart without getting so winded. I have not lost any weight at all and hoping its turning to muscle since I have better endurance. Jany
Guest guest
Ken, Try to make it part of your daily routine. That is what I have had to do, I get up, read email, and feed child and myself, then get ready to head out. I have to drive almost an hour to get to the gym, so it takes up allot of my day. I try to do my " in town " things while I am out and about... I did have a problem getting into the swing of things, but now, I just do it... and when my schedule gets messed up, it bothers me... Like today... I have to take the dog to the vet this afternoon, and will have to do the gym after the vet... blah! Guest guest
That's what I did too. Whenever I go out on an errand, I ask myself if I can do it on my bicycle, rather than the car; if the answer is " yes " , then I do. Guest guest
oh, I wish I could do it on the bike somedays! though we don't even have working bikes here... LOL... I would ride one if we had it. not to town, but round here... too much highway not enough median and crazy log truck drivers to ride on the highways.... I have been walking daily for 7 weeks now, have worked my way up to 3-5 miles per day, and my numbers are higher than they have ever been. (I walk after breakfast, so it's not a liver dump problem.) They stay that way the rest of the day, no matter what I eat, or if I take a 10 minute walk after eating, etc. I'm sure my next A1C will reflect this problem. If I don't exercise, my BG numbers are much lower. Doesn't seem right. It's probably another example of YMMV but is still very frustrating. And my weight isn't going anywhere after all that walking either. Maddening to say the least. BTW, 10,000 steps is roughly 5 miles, give or take a little depending upon your stride length. Guest guest
Tracie Today I went for my first Diabetic Ed Class....The instructor said you must eat every 2 to 3 hours even if you are not hungry because then the liver thinks you are in starvation mode and cranks out sugar for the survival mode.....So your BG goes up...Just a thought. Perhaps I'll try adding more snacks throughout the day. Right now I eat every 4 to 4 1/2 hours. But if I eat a snack at 2 hours when my BG's are still up from the previous meal, won't my BG's just go higher? They would never get a chance to drop after meals.
