This problem can be very frustrating. I have a doctor who talks at the speed

of light, stutters and has a lisp to boot!

At first, he was very hard. I had to slow the tape, backup constantly and

relisten. I would even just keep going and then go back and relisten to the

whole thing.

Now he is my favorite doctor and I have no problem understanding what he is

saying. All I can say is hang in there and it will get easier as time goes

on.

Good luck to you

Hello all,

To this date, I know that on County EMS WILL NOT permit employees to

wear shorts. Generally, it is the choice of our Director Of Emergency

Management and Director of Operations that we remain in the standard EMS

pants. Our county is a VERY CONSERVATIVE county, and they feel that our

citizens would appreciate the professional image of full length pants.

If you have ever seen Junior's legs you would know why!!!

Just kidding.....Junior is right it is probably more of a Conservative area

issue more then anything with us.

We allow our employees to wear shorts as long as they are dark blue or black

and of reasonable length. We have bunker gear on our units for protection

when needed.

<<but what in the world would make my legs hurt so bad? >>

Well, I hope it's not phlebitis! I have had that several times. It hurts like

crazy. If one leg is fatter than the other, go quickly to a hospital!!!!!

On the other hand, it could be your diabetes med....and I'm clueless about

that. Ask a doc.

not sure what that is, but no, they are both long, thin and shapely (ok, but

they do look the same, lol). don't want to be a drama queen or one of those

folks who delights in bad health, but i also realize that we have lots of

goodies to deal with, and i was hoping this was just one of those things and

comes and goes. pat

all i have is dried bananas, but even tho' it's a little heavy on calories

and carbs (at least the little bag i have), i decided to munch some, because

this pain was horrible (or at least, very uncomfortable). i figured it was

one of those good things, but i guess i hadn't paid a lot of attention to the

posts up until now, because i didn't have it. they seem to feel better now,

but i bet they will feel a lot better when they are not carrying as much

weight too.

i was told by the dietitian that since i adore bananas, about 3/4 of a

regular size one was ok. i'm guessing that if i freeze half of it, i can

put it in a blender, and have a 'smoothie' or something like that one

morning, or whatever. like i said, i have notes of when to work in some of

this stuff, but my head is just too full tonite to try to figure it out.

but i think i'm gonna try to have the philosophy of the more successful folks

and that is to control this little challenge and win. i just love winning.

my mom had bad circulation and was told to have a banana and yogurt

before

bed to relieve cramps. these are not cramps, but a dull, prolonged

aching,

like i have walked about 20 miles.

Pat,

That sounds like the aching I had in my legs from glucophage, and others

have mentioned that too...

i'm on atenelol (think i spelled it

right) for BP, and i am overweight. i had held off bananas because i

heard

on here that they are high i something.

Carbs... but also high in potassium.

my brain is hurting too. we went down the aisles and as much as i adore

math, we were counting calorie/fat grams. i did the 1-2-3: carbs,

calories, fat, and i was about ready to cry again. i'm guessing this

gets

better the more we read labels.

I read labels on everything... it's become 2nd nature :-)

Jane Anne, I had kidney infections frequently before and after PLS. Last

year around this time I had a kidney stone. The first thing the urologist

asked is do you have kidney infections often. There are a lot of reasons for

an infection so don't jump to conclusions right away. Have your doctor send

you to a urologist if the second infection doesn't clear up.............Flora

Jane Anne,

Sorry you're having a tough time. Kidney infections are no fun but can

happen to one at any age. Hang in there and take your medicine so you'll get

better.

Getting old does have some advantages. When they play a song on the radio

and I know the words, my kids are amazed...never mind the original version

came out in 1942!!!

--Jane Anne, I don't think it is part of PLS as I had one way back

when I was 20. I get bladder infections once in a while, you just

have to remember to drink lots of water. I also take a vit c tablet

every day so my urine stays acidy. I feel for you as I rememer it was

quite painfull. I got one as I didn't take time away from my job to

go to the bathrooom often enough or drink water like I should have.

Hi Jane Anne:

I used to get bladder infections periodically but now I try to drink

cranberry juice every morning and I do have cranberry pills that are

equivalent to an 8 oz. glass of cranberry juice. You might want to give

this a try.

Jo!

I have a really hard time keeping the positive attitude that many of you

have. And I can't seem to concentrate the bad times into something I can get

through and then move on. Every morning finds me in a haze of pain that

takes a while to dissipate.

Part of the problem is that the downward spiral continues at a rapid rate.

And my dx of PLS is tentative. Sherry I really admire the way you deal with

your dx of ALS.

Well enough feeling sorry for myself for now!

Hi Laurel,

I do take a prescription anti-depressant (Lexapro - a new one) and I'm sure

it helps. Depression runs in my family and I had taken anti-depressants

before for other reasons. Had been off ot them for a couple of years when

PLS came along.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi and Dolores,

Thanks for your replies! This is a great group. is there a place

on-line to read that article about PLS (deos it exist?)? I think I found it

once but a subscription was required.
