Guest guest
For the record. I posted the Music question, not Ellen. In the several years I have been a member of this board, we have not had a problem with OT posts. They have been far and few in between. The post was made in the Holiday Spirit of caring about my fellow AF'ers. To lighten the load for a moment. Happy Holidays Rich O

" Lightening the load " by distracting the mind from focusing on afib is a good technique for dealing with afib, I have found. In the beginning of my afib twenty years ago, I would just sit around moping and crying all the time. That obviously just made the situation worse. In more recent years when I was in afib 50 percent of the time and meds just wouldn't prevent afib, I found that music, among other things, was a great distraction and help in going on with my life. Of course, I don't just listen to music. I make music, and that offers an even greater catharsis for the negative feelings and anxiety accompanying afib. I have found that anything in which one is intensely interested can serve as a focus point that can pull the thoughts away from afib and make afib easier to bear. I think that is one of my older brother's secrets of dealing so well with permanent afib. He is very busy, has thousands of interests, and is rarely idle. He says he never thinks about his afib except when I am talking about my afib, and most of the time is totally unaware that he is in afib. Of course, he had to find the right medications to control his symptoms before he could stop focusing on afib. But with those meds, he lives a completely normal life and says he would never participate in a group like this because for him, in his mind, afib is not a problem. There's a lot to be said for the distraction that music, reading, and other enjoyable activities can offer to an afibber. in sinus in Seattle
