Yes, Anita and everyone, FYI

Fiorinal (with aspirin) and Fioricet (with Tylenol) can come in a

compound with codeine as well. I don't know exactly what they call it.

But, the Fiorental that you have been given could be the name. It comes

in #1,#2,#3. I guess this would be like Tylenol #3, #4. They usually just

have more of a dose of the narcotic codeine in them as the number goes

up, and perhaps the Tylenol to. Like Tylenol is 325mg or 500mg in the one

pill. I don't know the other mgs with the other parts in the compounds.

You can make sure what you have by asking the pharmacist when you pick

up your medication.

With the codeine this would put these drugs in the family with the opioid

analgesics then with the codeine, and this is a narcotic added. But, it

helps some better when they need the extra umph with the med for bad

headaches.

I have not tried it. But, I would assume it would be better with the

codeine since codeine is so good for pain. (remembering that it is a

controlled substance and with a possible addiction when the codeine is

added. The butalbital, though is a barbiturate, and can be addictive too.

But, not as bad as with the narcotic.)

No fear though, as someone said here, I think Kathleen, if you take your

meds. only as prescribed, you can then take them safely, even if there

are periods of time when you have to take the controlled meds.

DO NOT go beyond what the drs. prescribe. Like to Mexico or some of the

web sites to get meds. This is dangerous for your body and dangerous for

your freedom (jail). I am not trying to insinuate that anyone here does

this exactly. But, I have herd talk about it on this chat from time to

time. And, I truly have a great concern for you not to get sicker or in

trouble.

I have pain too remember, and I know how desperate you may feel at times

to get relief. But, this is not the way. There are usually, or finally

drs. who will talk with you about the risks, but then trust you to be

responsible with taking the controlled meds. or narcotics. With ACM, you

are not alone, we all have to take these from time to time. And, if you

don't, well, you are one of the blessed ones.

This version of Fiorinal is also available with or without caffeine. One

has all four compounds (butalbital, aspirin [or Tylenol], caffeine and

codeine). I have to be careful about caffeine because my heart flips

around too much and my heart rate gets out of control with too much.

Hope this helps,

Make sure if you use this medication, that you will know how you react

before driving, and in time, they usually get less severe with the drowsy

side-effects.

And, if you are prescribed Fior.....anything, ask your dr. what compound

it is. Talk to him about it if you need the codeine, caffeine or not.

And, if it has Tylenol (acetaminophen) be careful if you are taking it

with other Tylenol (acetaminophen) products. You should be careful with

taking too much Tylenol. It can be toxic to your liver unless taken as

directed by your dr. And, they put it in almost every over the counter

med. especially now for colds and such. Read the backs of the bottles.

Always ask your drs. if not sure. And, if you take something and don't

feel right about your dose or are scared if you have made a mistake, a

wonderful place to call is the poison control center in your local area.

I love to call them if I am not sure. And, yes, even as a nurse, I have

made little mistakes that I was not sure of and wanted to be reassured

that I would not be affected in an adverse way by the drugs.

With Chiari, we have to mix so many medications and usually are on two or

three or more at a time. We need to be careful. Always ask. Don't be shy.

Glad to help,

in Ala.
