Guest guest
During the holiday season, tempting foods seem to be at every turn. But you can resist and avoid a holiday gain with these tips from the registered dietitians at New York-Presbyterian Hospital: Use a " calorie bank " approach. If you overdo it one day, eat a bit lighter for the next several days to compensate. Or eat lighter for a few days before an event, and " save up " some calories for treats. Avoid standing next to the buffet table when making conversation. This cuts the nibble urge! Make sure there is at least one healthy option at the party by bringing it yourself. Fill most of your plate with vegetables, fruits, and lean cuts of meat, then add a few small servings of your favorite high-calorie items. Think bite-sized portions! Eat slowly. It takes at least 20 minutes for your brain to get the " full " signal. Aim to feel satisfied, not stuffed. Remember to squeeze in your workout no matter how hectic the holiday pace. Make a plan for handling fattening food gifts. Donate them to charity, re-gift them, or bring them to work, for example.
