Guest guest
Well after much thought and seeing 2 cardiologists I think I'm going to get the radio frequency ablation done. My E.P. recomends it. I have very minimal atrial flutter. That is, I am on 25MG Toprol XL and don't have any symptoms right now but he tells me that they can actually cure the AFL with about a 90% success rate. I'm young (34) and in good health so he thinks I'm a good candidate for it. I don't like the idea of being on beta blockers for another 50 years if I don't have to be and he tells me that my AFL can turn into AFIB and get worse if I don't do this but it is an elective procedure. I'd be in the hospital one night and a majority of that time is lying still after the 2 hour procedure. I still have about 10 questions I want to go over with him. do any of you out there know some of the answers to these questions: Will beta blockers lose effectiveness as time goes on if I don't have the abalation? If I choose to wait will that lessen the chance of success of the ablation in the future? Can it progress/worsen if I just use the medicine? What are the chances of reoccurrence? Is there a chance of developing AFIB because of the procedure? If so what is the risk? Odds? Why should I have this is medication is working?
