Is there anything over the counter an afibber can take that won't trigger afib? Any help would be appreciated. I feel like I caught the plague. I've been taking Tylenol for my fever and eating Hall's cough drops but I've got congestion in my chest, nose and throat. Any safe products out there? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx You have described the symptoms of the flu. Flu shots are not 100% effective, also the drug manufacturers didn't match their flu shots to the type of flu that we are experiencing so watch yourself and/or see your Dr. There is an anti-viral medication that helps a little. It began with stomach ache, gas, and pains, progressed to a very sore throat, caused many sleepless nights or nights of waking every one or two hours, and went through a stage of severe nasal congestion, sneezing, etc. after two weeks. In addition, I had a headache most days with diarrhea and stomach pains throughout. I also felt nauseated most of the time although I never threw up. Eating was difficult because it usually produced nausea. It seems that many people either experience diarrhea or vomiting but not both. Of course, fever and chills persisted throughout and even after I " thought " I was getting over it. Let's see...did I miss any of the delights of this flu? I probably told you more than you wanted to know, but I will just say that if you get it, be careful because it seems to be a serious bug. I went back to work too soon, and it really hit me again with a double whammy. This might seem to be off-topic, but I can relate it to afib because it is the first virus I have had in a long time that was not accompanied by afib, so it is, therefore, remarkable. I have had PAC's and PVC's almost every day at times, but as far as I know I have not actually gone into afib unless perhaps at night while I was asleep. Those of you who, like me, always go into afib when you get the flu will want to try to avoid this flu. The problem is that I don't think it is in the current flu shots, though, because it was discovered too late. It's worth taking any measures to avoid because it is one of the worst cases of flu I have experienced. However, ironically, my older brother in permanent afib also had the same symptoms, but they didn't affect him at all as seriously as they affected me. He never had to go to bed or stop working. Also, so far he has not experienced the sinus infection, laryngitis, and chest congestion that I wound up with. Maybe there are advantages to being in permanent afib! in sinus in Seattle

I read that the flu shots gave partial protection that might lessen the affects of the bug. Guy
Guest guest
The only cold remedy I feel safe taking is zinc lozenges. They do seem to help me, but it's better if you start as soon as you notice the first cold symptoms. Since I believe that cold remedies -- sudaphed and dristan nasal spray, in particular -- may have triggered my afib in the first place, I'm really reluctant to take anything. Sorry. Guest guest
Flu shots are not 100% effective. You sound like you have the flu, don't let it get ahead of you. My son-in-law just completed his first week in the hospital with pneumonia because he let the flu go to long before seeing a Dr. Guy
