AmI the only one? I can choke on my own spit. I have to break my pills into

tiny pieces and spread out eating only nibbles throughout the day. Forget a

whole meal at once. It gets scary sometimes.

My md thinks I need a scope down my esophagus. But, it comes and goes. And,

when it happens I have pain beyond belief, paralysis, blindness, etc going on

too. It never seems to occur when I am doing well. So I think it must be ms

related.

I am afraid to let someone try to put a scope in. Once they insisted I needed

to get a stricture enlarged. After that I had worse problems. Then they got

better. Now worse again. Don't want to go down that road again.

Swallowing difficulty a common symptom of MS. It's a nerve thing. I would be

scared to have scope shooved down my throat too!

Me too! You're not alone by any measure in this one! :) I've always had to be

careful with swallowing so I'm used to chewing my food and dodging anything dry

that I'm served up to eat. I am also really aware of how I tackle the process of

swallowing and have found my way to swallow many tablets at once.I just

concentrate, move the tabs to the sweet-spot on my tongue where tabs get flicked

down my throat and swallowed safely.....I have to take my time to do it, but

keeping calm and concentrating helps me more than anything.

You can swallow water ok????  Water is a killer for me.  I eat a lot of

pudding.  I have found that spreading my food out a few bites here a few there

helps most.  I choke on mashed mushy sweet potatoes if they are at the end of a

full meal.  Do you get spasm attacks in the esophagus too?  Does seeing a GI

do any good for this?  My md wants me to go to one  but it is a 200 mile

drive.

Good luck to you, Dole

Hi ,

I imagined it was ms because of the impeccable timing of the symptoms.  So, if

it is a nerve thing, will consulting a GI, in your opinion, accomplish

anything?  I don't want to make a lot of useless trips to doctors who can do

nothing anyway.

That isn't a question that I can answer for you but I would do more

investigation on the subject before I followed the advice of a doctor who I had

only known for 30 minutes.
