<<PPl keep telling me that muscle weighs . Well how

long does muscle weigh for my goodness>>

Sharon,

When I was first diagnosed in November 2001, I started walking vigorously

every day for 3 months. I followed the ADA food plan. In 3 months, I lost

55 pounds. Then, I purchased a gym membership. I started working out

faithfully for 2 hours every single day. I stopped losing weight! It's

muscle, girl. If you are exercising on a regular basis, you are making your

heart and muscles so happy! Also, by building muscle, you are creating

muscle to eat up all that extra glucose! Your bg numbers will come down.

The scale is not a good measurement of how you are doing. I threw mine

away! I've been working out since February 2002 & feel great, but I didn't

lose another pound - only inches. I took a break during the month of April

- stopped the strength training. Guess what....I dropped 10 pounds in the

last 2 weeks without doing anything different. I'm back to my total workout

and I may not lose another pound. I had a whole battery of tests run in

2002 after exercising for 6 months. My cardiologist told me I have the

healthiest heart in Houston - to keep doing whatever I was doing. Also, my

last HbAlc was 5.2.

Muscle weighs a lot and you will trim down even if you do not see the pounds

falling off the scale as quickly as you would like to see. Keep up your

exercise program. It's the best thing you can do for your overall health.
