Guest guest
Can anyone recommend a good internist, GP, Family Practice, generalist in the Northern Illinois/Lake County area who would have an actual interest in taking on a rather complicated patient? My step daughter has been in and out of hospitals so much, seeing lots of specialists, but was unhappy with her PCP so is trying to find another who will take her on and take her mito and gp problems seriously. When she was discharged from the hospital in mid January and transfered to an " extended care facility " , they assigned an Internal Medicine doctor who really doesn't seem to want to doctor her. has had her j tube " fall out " in the local emergency room where her new PCP wanted her taken by ambulance to a hospital an hour away (where her specialists are) instead of going to the local hospital for more immediate care. The problem had nothing to do with her disease, but the doctor insisted that she go back to the hospital in Chicago. She was in considerable pain, etc. etc. So, after much distress, they took her to the local emergency room where the PCP told her to go back to the nursing home, keep the " wound " sterile and clean and let it heal. When she got ahold of the GI doctor (yes, he was in Chicago) he told her to go back to the local emergency room and have them put in a new j tube. It isn't " brain surgery " . They could do it. When she went back to the ER the PCP had her transfered to the hospital in Chicago for the replacement. Very stupid. Very costly to the state because she is on Public Aid and very unnecessary. The day after she got back to the nursing home, she was again in extreme pain and the PCP wanted to arrange an ambulance for the 35 mile ride to the city instead of a 3 mile ride to the ER. Well, we got her to the ER and they said she had pseudo obstructions and an infection (again, this is nothing that the specialists in Chicago need to handle) and the ER doctor asked us what we wanted to do. Did we want them to treat her where she was or did she want to be transfered? We all said, keep her here, no need to move her for something like this. But again, her PCP argued and wanted to transfer her back to the city. So, thanked the doctor for her services but said that she would no longer need them. Now, apparently, they can't discharge back to the nursing home because she doesn't have a doctor there anymore. . . All the while, my daughter in China has no money because of a snafu at the University financial aid office . . . we are tapped out with helping get her into an apartment and get TO China for school, so we are just having soooooooo much fun at our house. Sorry - Just needed to vent. And aske the question about doctors. (For those of you who are also in the gastroparesis group, I apologize, but I am going to just cut and paste this so it will be the same post because I am sneaking in the time to do it from work and can't do it twice because because because . . . . oh, yeah - I am supposed to be working! (ha ha ha ha)) Thanks for any input you might have for me - Nan in Illinois
