Guest guest
Hi all! Just wondering what the consensus is about exposing your scar to the sun. I want to go to the beach and wear my thong-NOT! I've heard that tanning the scar might make it show less and other opinions that it will " burn " it into your skin even more. Also, at almost 9 weeks out, my incision is still a bit sore. Did that happen to anyone else? It could be that since I've been back to work, I've been lifting lots of HEFTY toddlers. I work with one little girl who weights 40 lbs at 18 months-OUCH! Steph in Rockport
Guest guest
Steph and Alice, May I interrupt to ask where the scar is, what direction, how long? I don't care from a vanity point, just wondering. Also, I have had keloid scars all my life. I have been told recently by my internist to use Vitamin E ointment, and I know FOR ME (we are all different) it has helped in healing. I was told to put it on the scar, let it absorb a little, then gently rub it in. I do that plus put another coat of ointment on overnight. I recently had a cancerous skin lesion removed from right smack in the middle of my left cheek, so she knew I was worrying about getting it looking good for my daughter's wedding in October. It has come along much better than I thought it would initially doing this. I hope by October, it will look much better. I do not where make-up usually, but that day I think foundation will cover whatever is remaining. Sally lknglas11@... wrote: > Steph, > > I'm nearly 4 months out and my scar is still sore. Guest guest
Steph, I can't say anything about my RNY scar since my tummy has never seen the sun, LOL! But I have a surgical scar on my lower left leg that I have had since I was 14 (now 47 = 33years). This scar still burns and peels if I don't use major sunblock and cover with a towel periodically. Best of luck with your tanning...I would recommend lots of vitamin E to help with " disappearing " your scar. It won't all go away but it will blend in a lot sooner. Guest guest
Sally-It's my WLS scar. It's about 6 inches, and runs vertically from under my chest to above my belly button. I think Alice A. and Lyssa have pictures of their scars on their websites. Steph in Rockport
Guest guest
Sally, My scar is 6 inches long, and runs vertically from just below my bra to about 3 inches above my belly button. I agree that vitamin E helps. I was self-conscious of it at first, but now it reminds me of all I've been through, and how much better I am now. - Alice A. Guest guest
Sally, Attending a meeting wil be great for your husband, even after he's getting into it (what a good guy!) I brought my mom to a meeting, and she went from " this is too drastic, you don't need surgery " to " thank god you're doing this now while you're young! This group is wonderful. " And this was after only one meeting! I'll be at the Sept. mtg at NWH. We usually try to wear nametags, so keep an eye out for me. - Alice A. Guest guest
Sara, The meetings are free, and they pass around a sign-in sheet once everyone is seated. - Alice A.
Guest guest
Hi Alice A., Thank you. We are looking forward to the Sept. meeting, and I am glad people where name tags. That helps so much. I will be looking for you. Sally lknglas11@... wrote: > Sally, > > Attending a meeting wil be great for your husband, even after he's getting > into it (what a good guy!) Guest guest
Alice A, Is there a sign-in table? This would be a required meeting for me should I go ahead with the surgery as I am more inclined I will. If so, I would have to sign in under my proper name and wear a nametag under that name - Sara. Maybe for a while now, I will sign my emails with Sally (Sara) so people will know me. Are these meetings free? Guest guest
Sally/Sara I will be bringing name tags that get passed around & are optional to use or not for wearing your name .. some people suggested putting a date under your name too like 6/22/99 that represents your surgery date. So thats optional too. We just found people feel more approachable wearing the tags. An attendance sheet does make the rounds to sign in.
