Ignou to launch HIV study programmes

NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National Open University is going to

launch several courses and formal study programmes on social work and

HIV/AIDS, masters in social work (MSW) from July 2008. Besides, a PG

diploma in social work may also be launched from January 2009.

At the first annual Mother Memorial Lecture organized by

(IGNOU), former president APJ Abdul Kalam released a book on diploma

in HIV/AIDS and delivered the lecture on 'Giving Dignity to Human

Life'.

The programme, which was telecast live on Gyan Darshan Education

channel, and repeated on Doordarshan on March 5, was also attended by

Ignou V-C V N Rajasekharan Pillai and pro V-C Latha Pillai.

This lecture was the first in the series of Mother memorial

lectures initiated by the Chair on 'Health and Social Welfare',

instituted after signing of an MoU between Ignou and Catholic

Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI).
