HIV status non disclosure due to HIV Stigma and discrimnation:

Dear FORUM,

In a recent interaction with PLWHA, regarding problems faced due to

stigma and discrimination, the vast majority told that they had manged

to keep the HIV status aclosely guadred secret for fear of stigma nad

dicrimination. As long as they were clinically healthy, they did not

risk stigma and discrimination.

Till the time when society can be learned enough to see the PLWHA with

empathy and provide support, the non diclosure is a good survival

strategy. Thei only fear of breach of confidentiality arises from

health care sector : doctors openly writing HIV status on the OPD slips.
