Guest guest
Hi all, I was having an intense combination of dull and burning pain in my liver region. Some of the pain was shooting right through to my back directly behind my liver region. The pain started off about a 2 (scale of 10 from this point forward), gradually went up to a 5 and even got up to about a 9 for a while. Then it eventually subsided and I was able to go to sleep. I woke up again at 3:00AM with pain at about a 6 or 7 and then I was so tired it eventually subsided and I just fell asleep. I woke up around 5:00AM and then I went to bed until I had to wake up this morning at 7:30AM. After I woke up this morning the pain was gone. Tonight I am noticing a mild burning sensation accompanied by occasional discomfort. My eyes were yellower today than usual according to my girlfriend. While I was having the pain, I kept checking my temperature and it never went above 36.8 degrees Celsius. Should I be concerned about this? I have had this pain before and the doctors never found any blockages. I have never had any history of blockages as of yet. I used to get this type of pain a lot before I was diagnosed and it's been quite a while since I've experienced it to this degree. As a matter of fact, the last time I remember having this pain was when I was hospitalized in February. The other two times I was hospitalized this year, I didn't have the pain along with my fevers, infection, etc. What do you think? Should I contact my liver specialist on my transplant team and talk to him about it? I have an appointment next week with my family doctor because I have to give him my discharge sheet. Maybe I should mention it to him since the appointment is already setup? I believe my transplant assessment coordinator is going to be setting me up for an appointment with my liver specialist on my transplant team soon anyway. One more thing, I remember my other liver specialist (the one that is not on my transplant team) saying that if I experienced any pain I should go to the hospital and since I didn't have chills, fever, malaise/nausea, I didn't bother going in and just coped with the pain. Was that a bad thing to do? Thanks. .
Guest guest
, Your symptom of radiating pain without fever that spikes and then fades away sounds like the passing of a gall stone, which might have been caught behind a series of strictures, each one causing a spike of pain as the stone passed through until it was finally passed into your intestine. If the pain goes on for hours, the stone may have come up against a stricture too small for it to squeeze through. In that case an ERCP can help by grabbing the stone and pulling it through. I think was you did was apropriate. If you went to the hospital you would probably have waited until the pain passed and then been told to go home. You would have had expert care available if things happened to take a turn for the worse. You have to weigh that against the odds of actually needing that care and being at home. Most doctors will take the medically conservative approach and advise you to go to the hospital so you;ll have care available if needed. Guest guest
, Others will be able to give you more specific advise but my husband had this pain without fever etc. but slightly more yellow eyes etc. After putting up with it for about a week he went in and the doctor said they needed to do an ercp. Low and behold he did have a definate stricture in his common bile duct. He hadn't ever had any strictures before eiether. So I guess my advice is to call and have them check it out. Better to be safe then sorry! Take Care! Mindy wife of mike UC and PSC Radiating Pain Hi all,I was having an intense combination of dull and burning pain in my liver region. Guest guest
Today, my pain is almost completely gone. However, I will still discuss this with my doctors and see what they think. Thanks.texaswagner wrote: , Others will be able to give you more specific advise but my husband had this pain without fever etc. but slightly more yellow eyes etc. After putting up with it for about a week he went in and the doctor said they needed to do an ercp.
